They serve their purpose perfectly - be leary of bad reviews
I read a lot of mixed reviews and was reluctant to buy these, but I ended up buying several and it was a great choice. So this is basically two parts - a solid piece of plastic which has a lip for the opening in the drywall, and the second part is 2 thin flimsy metal pieces that click into the plastic and have holes so you can fasten them to the studs or ceiling joists. You align the opening where you ultimately want the speaker, nail or screw the fins into the wood, and you're done. This puts a hole for the drywaller to cut perfectly, and later you just go back, hook the wire up to the speaker, and put the speaker in. This kit doesn't hold any weight. Yes, it is flimsy when you install, but it doesn't matter - you're just setting the hole for the drywall guy. The weight of the speaker will be held up by the drywall, it will be fine. As you can see in my photo - intent matched. The drywall was installed with a perfect hole and access to the wire so I can just pop my speakers in. Invest in these. It's worth it. Install is about 2 minutes per speaker if you have any handyman ability whatsoever. You don't have to cut drywall holes, guess where the wire is, or make mistakes. I'm glad I found these. Any speakers I ever rough in, these are a must!

Worked out great, but the metal is delicate, so be gentle.
Served it’s purpose. Fits my Goldwood CS-IC83 8” speakers I purchased through Amazon perfectly. Some reviews mention that these are flimsy. They aren’t meant to provide structural support-they’re strictly for the drywaller to know where to cut your speaker holes. I ended up accidentally snapping a couple of pieces, so I just screwed the short end right next to one ceiling truss, and used the other unbroken end to make up the difference. That worked out so well that I purposefully broke off one side on each mount in order to provide more stability.

Not as advertised
These are terrible. Opening is 9.5”, not 8”. Screwed up our total A/V plan and cost me a small fortune to fix. Waste of money and should be taken off the market or communicated properly.

Check that they send you the right size!
Ordered the 8” diameter ones, they sent me the 9.5”. I did not measure the size when I received them, assuming it was the right size, and had rude awakening when I tried to install the speakers that I bought and they didn’t fit. Since the drywall has already been installed with the wrong templates, now I have to buy a different set of speakers that fit the larger opening... Check the product for right size when you receive it, otherwise working pretty well.

You need these for new construction - they work fine.
As others have said, these are flimsy, and they are supposed to be. The idea is that you can rough in the location for your wires and speakers before the drywall. These brackets are NOT made to support the speaker. The ultra thin metal "arms" hold the plastic ring in place but don't interfere with the drywall. If you put these in place before the drywall does in, the drywall crew will cut out the holes for you. The advantage is you can place your speakers where they don't hit a stud, joist or rafter. If you try to install speakers after drywall is up, you may hit a rafter, or some other framing member or wire may be in the way - and you usually won't discover this until after the hole is cut.I gave this 4 stars because the metal arms are really flimsy, and because they are pre-scored, it is easy to break them where you don't want too. Also, the slot in the arms is made to slide them along a screw head, but the slot is really to wide for a drywall or wood screw.I glued some 12" foam baffles (XTC 12" Round Foam Baffle) to the back of these so insulation would not get blow into the speakers. I did this before mounting the bracket so I would not have to climb around the attic. Picture attached with baffle mounted - note that even though it sags before drywall is up, it doesn't matter. When drywall is attached to ceiling, it will be fine, and speaker cams will tighten against it instead of drywall.

Fit really good
I recently used 2 of these in a new construction house and they could not have been easier to use. After the hose is framed, but before insulation or dryall, you attach these to the ceiling in the location you want your speakers. At this point you would usually also run speaker wire and keep it tied up above this location. When installing drywall, you (or the contractor) then installs around the cutout, leaving the same sized hole in the drywall. Once drywall is up, you can come back and install your speaker, where it then mounts to the secure drywall along with the bracket because it is still there. It literally took me less then 2 minutes per speaker to install because of this. The old way would have been measuring and cutting a circle after the fact in finished drywall. This product saves a ton of time, headaches, and the process of having to cut a perfect hole in your new ceiling

The metal brackets are too fragile
The metal brackets snap off too easily shortening the length before install making the unit useless.

Works perfect when used how they are supposed to!
I was prompted to write this review after reading all of the others speaking of how "flimsy" this was. This bracket is primarily meant for new construction as a way to pre-plan where the drywall finishers need to have a hole cut out.
