Best of the travel guides to Europe; sadly the series has been discontinued

For In-Depth Information
Cadogan guides are the best for delving into history, and interesting details not typically found in "postcard" guides. While not for everybody, these the only guides we use, despite that Cadogan is defunct.

not a useful guide
My husband and I disregarded the other review and bought this book and several other guidebooks for a trip to Portugal this past fall because we had found other Cadogan guides useful and fun to read. This one is, unfortunately, a flop. Poorly organized and vague, we didn't even use it but donated it to a library book sale. Much preferred Lonely Planet and Rick Steves.

This is an excellent travel guide
This is an excellent travel guide. We first got it from the library and liked it so much we bought it. We find nothing vague about it: it is a little opinionated, specific, funny and entertaining, very well written. The discussions of the towns, historic sites, and museums are a head above the other guides and should make the book worth owning for many years. We bought a current Fodor's for current hotel and restaurant information, but found the Cadogan good for these too, and carried both on our trip.
