Witch Hunts: A Graphic History of the Burning Times

Good book, bad font size
I enjoyed the history. I've always been curious about the witch hunts. I was not pleased with the format. I was unable to increase the picture size which made the very tiny font hard to read. Get a sample of this book before buying to make sure you can see it well.

An excellent potted history of witch hunting
This is an excellent historical precis of witchcraft, and the infectious nature of the witch-hunt, easily digested in under two hours. It systematically traces the horrific history of witch-burning in medieval and post-medieval Europe and America. And it is full of little known facts of considerable historical importance; for example, I had no idea King James 6th of Scotland (later James 1st of England), and famous for the King James' bible, had been an assiduous witch hunter in his youth. The book is greatly enhanced by the graphics which are realistic enough to bring home the full horror of this gross aberration of all sects of Christianity. In the era of the blogosphere and trial by media, we should all be aware that mass hysteria and trial by fury if not by fire are alive and well and in our midst. There are lessons for the present and the future from understanding the power of such beliefs, and their abuse by malicious and evil people.

Almost unreadable
This book has mildly interesting content but is completely riddled with grammatical errors and misspellings. Whoever did the editing needs to be fired. I couldn’t even continue reading after a while because the poor wording and grammar made it very difficult to read and enjoy. Don’t waste your money

This One is a Keeper!
This brilliant graphic novel examines the history of "witches" from 775 A.D. to the present. You'll find much to appreciate, and I promise you'll be edified --if not downright horrified at the persecution (particularly aimed at women) over the centuries for colluding with Satan. Such persecution, from unspeakable tortures to burning at the stake is painstakingly illustrated by the talented Greg Chapman.Learn about the Malleus Maleficarum and the two "godly" men behind it. One thing I was impressed with was the end result of such witch hunts was how, through centuries, towns became too impoverished to continue, having killed off both merchants and farmers to the point where there were none left to till the fields or supply the wares needed for survival.Hats off to authors Rocky Wood and Lisa Morton for scripting a marvelous and worthy graphic novel. A true "keeper" you should have on your bookshelf, if not just on your Kindle! -Marge Simon

not worth the read at all.
Where to start with this one? I had expected a graphic depiction of the Salem with trials or something like that but in reality, it's like reading an encyclopedia on witch trials through history. It's poorly written with no storyline, no attempt to hold the readers attention, it doesn't even have the redeeming quality of good art work since its both poorly drawn and in black and white. I couldn't even get through it before sending it back.

An in depth look into a dark time
I've been FaceBook friends with Greg for a while now and love his work (both his written word and his artwork). An ARC of Dark Screams (published by Cemetery Dance Publications) recently exposed me to the mind of Lisa Morton. Rocky Wood, well, if you don't know who he is (was), you have no business reading anything in the horror genre. So, when I found out that the three of these brilliant people collaborated on a graphic novel - wild horses couldn't keep me away from getting my hands on a copy; and I did, autographed as well (by all three).A few years back I started writing a novel about Lilith - considered by many to be the first "vampire"/"witch". Before I started, I did a lot of research, a LOT of research. I thought I knew more about, and subsequently the persecution of, witches throughout history - but as the saying goes, "You learn something new everyday."From the artwork, to the lettering, to the story, this book nails it. It was interesting and informative - and presented reasonings behind the misguided views of a misogynistic society (even though a few men were tried and executed as witches). If you are even a little interested in the very dark period in humanity's past, you need to pick up this book, now. Don't hesitate, go right now and buy it.And while you're at it, check out the other works of Greg Chapman, Lisa Morton, and the late Rocky Wood.

Amazing and horrifying
What a vile place this world was. This amazing non-fiction graphic novel explores the persecution of women over hundreds of years; it is a must for any comics fan.
