Things that make sense
This can opener comes with parts not assembled. The instructions were terrible. I managed to figure it out. Once I put it together, it wa easy to attach to the side of a cabinet wall. It works great. The magnet catches the cut lid. I like that you can swing it almost flat and out of the way. It’s well constructed. It serves my can cutting needs.

Oh yes it can!
In ordering this opener I was hoping to solve a few issues:1. Rheumatoid arthritis has made my hand held unit a painful chore to use.2. I didn't want to go to an counter-top hogging electric unit.3. The replacement opener had to open Number 10 cans (think food storage/restaurant size canned green beans, corn, etc) easily. This item solved all of the above. It is easy to use. Unlike my old unit, with this one I don't have to squeeze it shut or twist, twist, twist repeatedly in that brutal wrist wrecking motion. I simply clamp the can into this opener, support underneath the can with one hand and crank away ( in a full arm motion) with the other. This opener, if you carefully lock the opener into the proper position, and support the can with your hand, easily opens the large cans. The magnetic lid lifter arm is fully removable and works best to lift lids on smaller cans. Even on the #10 cans it is capable of keeping the detached lid from sinking into the contents of the can.It is vital to mount this opener onto solid wood, not drywall.I was fortunate that I had an exposed hardwood cabinet side in my kitchen that made the perfect spot to mount the opener. When you install this into hard wood and exercise some common sense about not letting super heavy cans "dangle" from the opener it is plenty sturdy.(Note: If you don't have exposed hardwood to work with you can mount a hardwood panel to the drywall with appropriate anchors and then mount opener to that panel.)Another plus is that it is truly a "swing-a-way" so if you are working with a location that could impede traffic (or for someone like me: cause you to crash into it as you fumble past) you can use the opener and then swing it to a nearly flat position back against the mounting wall.Cleaning the unit is easy if you stay on top of it by "opening" a damp paper towel to remove grime from the gears/wheel. Follow that with "opening" a sheet of wax paper and you are golden.I use this opener multiple times every day and it glides right through it's job every time.

Much better than hand held
The media could not be loaded. This is much better than using a hand held opener, but the unit is a little unsteady on the brakes and moves around. The video was my very first time using it, and it will be more steady if the body is seated in the notch. I like that this will never be lost in the drawer, the handles won't warp, and it doesn't take up counter space or a outlet. It looks cool and retro and stores neatly against the cabinet.I decided against using the included screws to mount it because they were so tiny I didn't trust them. I used some small bolts, washers, and nuts so that the weight of the can or force of cranking won't tear the screws out of the cabinet.

Works great.
Bought it to replace the 1950’s one in my olde home. Works great. Overall, is lighter than the original so probably won’t last the 70 years of the last one.

Long lasting, no problem can opener
I had one of these for probably fifty years. I wasn't good about cleaning it--that's why after half a century I'm buying a new one! This product literally lasts a lifetime. (Probably not good for the company's bottom line...) I have disabilities of both hands, so I can't use the simple hand-held opener. The Swing-A-Way solves this problem (for me) by mounting it on the wall. I tried the Hamilton Beach electric--highly recommended--but it died after a relatively short time. It turns out that this style of electric can opener , which cuts the side of the can ("no sharp edges") doesn't last long. And I've tried two different models of those cute, battery-operated ones that crawl around by themselves on the top of the can. I have never had one actually completely open a can.So if you are able to use this kind of manual can opener, this is the way to go. It works, it lasts, no batteries, no partly open cans with wasted contents.

Swing -a-way has changed, not for the good.
I replaced a 5 year old swing-a-way (same model) with this one about 3-4 weeks ago - just before Christmas. Installation was simple I used the existing bracket and just had to pull the pin, put the new unit in the hinge and then replace the pin. This is why I gave 3 stars instead of 2. Functionality however, is not so great. The 5 year old unit was replaced because it was riding up on the rim of cans and not cutting through the lid - we use our opener just about daily. This new one started doing this after the first or second can. Also the magnet lid holder was bent wrong and won't hold the lid. It appears that swing-a-way is having a problem with QC.Hope this helps!
