Heartbreaking and Encouraging; A Journey of Self-Exploration and What It Means to Love
I initially discovered Norman's work through his online publications. When I found out he was publishing his first book, I had to have it. His words are heart-wrenching and relatable regardless of sexuality. Anyone who has experienced heartbreak and the associated feelings of loss and confusion will immediately connect to the short poems in Shelter. They resonate with my own grief, regrets, whether deserved or not, and unease that comes with the feeling that I didn't just lose a lover, but an entire world. Only those who have been moved by love will decipher the meaning in this work.Deep loss, like any trauma, can make one feel alienated and alone. At its most basic, Shelter lays bare the raw feelings inherent in what it means to be human, perhaps our most essential quality: the longing for love and meaningful connection with another. Norman makes it clear that we are not alone in this journey through grief, what can sometimes feel like an ever stretching desert of shifting dunes, high and low. There is no linear path to healing a broken heart. Shelter walks us through the doubts, the uninvited questions that appear in the wee hours of the night, the angst of romantic nostalgia. There is no quick fix in these pages or anywhere else; these poems chronicle the small daily struggles at the back of our minds, little battles we hope will lead to an inner resolution and catharsis. It is a type of self-exploration and Norman brings us along for every shift in the sand. If we are lost, we are lost together.Although his words carry the weight of a pained heart, I believe it's important to address these feelings in a tangible way rather than bottling them up. If you are like me, you may have trouble sorting out the multitude of mixed and often contradictory emotions in the mess leftover from a broken heart. Norman speaks genuinely from his own experience and in doing so he lends his voice to others. Shelter may offer you some peace by putting into words the lingering unrest, extracting ink from his own obscured emotions and transforming it into defined lines of text. These poems have offered me some respite from my own inner turmoil, a literal shelter, and I hope they will do the same for you.

It's a tale about gay love and loss that anyone can related to.
Kevin Tyler Norman is not the first person to ever fall in love. Yet what KTN offers us is the very fabric of his being attempting to tip the scales in his heart of sharing too much and sharing too little. We are offered glimpses into a love story between two gay men that lasted a moment in sum of time. Mr. Norman's writing is simple and yet grabs perfectly at the complexities of love and loss. We are taken from the USA to Australia on a first class ride to understanding heartbreak between two continents. I loved this mostly because it was honest. Most people shy away from their pain, anger, hate, sadness but not Kevin. Kevin lets it hit him like a wave that must run its course before it smooths out. That is painfully human in a way humans are not. This is Kevin's first book and I look forward to the many more he writes.

A book of poetry you will read time and time again
I was never really one for poetry but I stumbled upon videos from the author where his voice overs truly brought his poems to life and I found myself returning again and again to listen to them. I eventually figured out the poems where all from this book titled Shelter and ordered it immediately. When it arrived I got lost in the gorgeous, lush words and whimsical illustrations. Shelter is a must read. I can’t wait for the sequel.

Beautiful and heartfelt storytelling through honesty poetry
I absolutely loved the journey Kevin takes you on in his writing. As a reader, I felt so intimately involved in portions of his relationship and who he was within that context. Following his writing through heartbreak and discovery was beautiful and it honestly felt so special to come along on the journey. My copy of this book has so many dog-ears and pink highlights of my favorite lines. Excellent work ♥️

Relatable and Definitely worth it!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It’s very relateable. He sums up everything I wish I could say. Experience the journey of love, heartbreak, and then acceptance poetically. Don’t let the LGBT stamp discourage you. His poems relate to everyone. Buy the book, leave it out for your friends and family to discover. There’s a poem in there for everyone
