Not bad, but there are better books to buy.
If you love her show, you may be tempted to buy her book, just like I was. I must warn you though, unless you are dedicated to using this book, it will probably wind up on your shelf collecting dust.Pros:1. The recipes are not bad and can be made pretty well. The taste of some of them is actually good.2. They are very healthy recipes.Cons:1. The recipes are in metric, so for Americans, you will need a conversion chart or will have to do calculations. But if you really like a recipe, you can just write down the American measurements in the book itself, so you will only have to do calculations for a recipe once.2. Most of the recipes require ingredients that CANNOT be found in most big chain stores. For many items, you will have to track down a health food store, a World Foods, or a specific retailer that carries what you need. This is NOT a book that you take to Walmart, grab your stuff and go. You WILL have to hunt down some ingredients. Some of the ingredients, I guarantee, you will never have heard of; many times I found myself looking at a list of ingredients and thinking, "What the hell is a ______?"3. Some of the recipes taste like crap. I'm not going to lie. She LOVES using leeks. If you don't like onions, you're not going to like leeks. It's basically a gigantic green onion. She also likes using fish. If you don't like fish, you're not going to be a happy camper. This book is not bad, but it's not great. If you are typical a overweight Midwesterner, you are probably not going to like this book very much. If you are really dedicated to ONLY eating the recipes in this book, you will lose weight. But you are probably not going to like it.You might want to save yourself some trouble, and look somewhere else.

Diet and health bliss...really really great stuff
I collect healthy cookbooks. I'm a natural foods chef. It's an addiction. That said, I've also watched Gillian McKeith when she had the "You are What You Eat" show on. She is an amazing doctor that is able to find the root cause of health issues rather than just treat the issues. Since watching her show, I've heard more and more doctors begin studying the tongue, the eyes, the skin, etc in the very things she mentions on TV and in many of her books to tell you what's going on with your body...and often it does begin with a bad diet. The difference in this cookbook is it's not just a healthy cookbook or a weight loss cookbook..it makes you healthy with foods that enrich many things...your liver, kidney, skin, for example. You just feel so GOOD and light after these meals. And your body responds.I have many of her books, but this is my absolute favorite as I feel it's the most full of easy to do recipes, it's full of great smoothies, things I really love eating, and some of the healthiest meals on the planet...she remembers healthy and light proteins, monounsaturated fats, amino acids...you spend a month on these meals and you will feel and look different. At least I did.Of all the books I have by the author, this was my favorite purchase.

Best diet ever. She is one fireball of a lady. Love her show too
I got hooked on her show on BBC America, my sister bought me the cookbook a few months, and I've been on this diet or should I say life style change, for the past 2 weeks. My husband has dropped 20 lbs. and I've dropped 9, and we love the food. It's great to eat so healthy. Mind you I've always been a big veggie eater anyways, but in all my 46 years I've never cooked with fennel or leeks and now I can't live without it. She's right, my energy level is higher, my PMS is 75% improved and we are full. Buying organic is not that bad either, food tastes better and with not eating out or eating tons of meat, it is cheaper. We will keep on this lifestyle change and stick with it. Thanks Gillian. Now bring out another cookbook.... I had to order this book for my boss who know wants one as well, as he is jealous of my great healthy lunches. I love aduki beans.....I used to eat Lean Cusines, Weight Watchers etc, but Gillian is right, they have so much sodium. I'm not a fan of salt nor have I ever been, but my hands and ankles love me without the salt from these prepackaged foods. I'm hooked for life. A fan and skinner in Florida.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT COOKBOOK
I love Gillian's show and her recipes. The recipes are very tasty. The only reason I didn't give it a full five-star rating was because this book needs an English to American translation for the average American to understand it easily. For example, what is the Fahrenheit equivalent to Gas Mark 4? What's a courgette? How much is a dessert spoonful? Like I said, a FULL translation would be VERY helpful! However, I would still recommend the book.I went to the Gillian McKeith website and got translations for the names of the foods and also to a metric-English conversion/calculator site to convert some of the measurements and the cooking temperatures. I'm not exactly sure how much a (English) dessert spoon holds, so I'm still guesstimating some measurements, but everything has turned out just great. I love eating all these fresh fruits and veggies and would recommend Gillian's books, plan, and attitude to anyone. Enjoy!

Great Recipes & Great Holistic Nutrition Education
I've watched Gillian McKeith's show a few times back when BBC America was still part of my basic cable package (thanks a lot Charter Communications for removing it! :( ) So I knew I would like this book. However I really need to take the time to go through more of these recipes and finish the book. She makes eating vegan/whole-food-plants-based seem so simple and easy! And she covers herbs and supplements and herbal teas and what they do for the body. Such as just off the top of my head - don't have the book in front of me now - Dandelion Tea helps to clean and detoxify your liver... stuff like that. Love it!

My second copy...
I first purchased this book when McKeith was on the TV, which I think was 15 years ago ish, GMK is so knowledgeable that rather than pick out recipes that I wanted to try, I sat and read the book cover to cover. That was a long time ago and my poor original book was nearly falling apart, so this is my second. IT IS THAT GOOD.make sure you try at the chickpea burgers, salmon with ginger and leeks, the chestnut bake, all the soups and smoothies - just try everything - its all good and so healthy!

Bleugh!
I bought this book after watching the TV series (and before I looked into her qualifications or saw her appearance on "I'm a celebrity"). I looked through the book and picked a few of the more appetising looking recipes, but I would not choose to make any of them again. At best, they were tolerable, and at worst downright revolting. Needless to say, this book left my cookbook collection some time ago!

Clever
I know she was a bit of a dragon when she was on TV, but this book shows how clever she is At producing things that are healthy and nutritious but also very tasty, And mostly quite simple. I got this from Amazon about eight years ago but I keep coming back to it again and again, When I want to try and clean up my eating habits!

Good variety of receipes
This book works in conjunction with her other book. Some of the receipes were foul, but a lot were great, I adapted them to suit my tastes, as I wasn't following a strict diet. This cookbook will only work for you if you want it to, if you want to lose weight but aren't commited to this plan, then don't bother and do something else.

Great book
We purchased this book and You are what you eat together. They both have the same idea in eating plan but this one has many more recipes. Since we have bought them we have sampled many of the recipes and we love them. We feel so much healthier and energized and have lost weight without even trying.
