Fills in the Zombie Fallout backstory & introduces a great twist
Dr. Hugh Mann by Mark Tufo is a prequel to the The Zombie Fallout Series. If you have not yet read any books in this excellent series yet, I highly recommend that you start with Zombie Fallout, book 1, and do not read the prequel Dr. Hugh Mann until after the third book. It makes perfect sense then, but is a different story and style from the rest of the books. Zombie Fallout (book 1) sets the stage and is a better starting point. The series thus far consists of Dr. Hugh Mann (this book, a prequel), Zombie Fallout, A Plague Upon Your Family, and The End.... Although distinct books, I am reviewing them together because that is the way that I read them. Once I finished each book, I was so wrapped up in the story that I immediately purchased the next. Cumulatively, they are an epic apocalyptic tale, which reminded me of Steven King's The Stand and Robert McCammon's Swan Song. Elements of horror, paranormal, supernatural, and dark humor elevate this series beyond your typical zombie fare. These elements, along with Mike's quirky personality & fierce, protective love of his companions, make this series poignant and worth reading. Highly recommended.Now...on to the Dr. Hugh Mann prequel. The prequel is set years before the events in the rest of the books, and only one character from the other books appears in it. There are no zombies at this point, but there is a horrible epidemic, and this book sets the stage to explain how and why the zombie apocalypse described in the rest of the books occurred. It also sheds light on several important characters in the series, and has a great, surprise, twist at the end which makes waiting for book four intolerable. The plot of this story revolves around Dr. Hugh Mann, a scientist, and the chain of events that is set off when he makes a startling discovery in the lab one day. For those engrossed in the Zombie Fallout series, it is required reading.

Mr Tufo is the king of Zombies
This short story nestles itself between book 3 and 4 of the Zombie Fallout series and is a prequel to the series. As a reader I find that prequels can be fraught with risk and I often find myself asking questions like:Is this just a grab for some cash?If it is so important to the story the why not include it in the first book? Will it add any value to the story and series? Is this a result of lazy story development? What I got in this prequel was a valued pack story that not only added to the series but stood alone as a separate story. Mark Tufo has nodded his cap to his readership by adding some great tongue in cheek references to the series. The book tells the tale of the discovery of the virus that will one day bring the world to its knees and adds a tantalizing link and teaser to what is to come in the series. I for one want to know what the hell is in that suitcase.I always come away from Mr Tufo's books feeling greatly entertained and for some reason craving pop tarts. For those of you yet to sample what this author has to offer it's time you jump in with both feet and immerse yourself in his world.

Only read after you have read books 1-3!
Zombie Fallout is an awesome series. As Zombie apocalypse go this one has all the traits one can expect. The world suddenly goes haywire, our hero survives the initial shock and awe of the apocalypse, and antics ensue! The characters are totally believable and this particular hero is funny. The series is full of rich and unexpected character development as well. The Book is written in the ever popular "hero writes a journal and sort of narrates the world around him" style. The author does break free of this from time to time and it is refreshing. My biggest problem with narration style story telling is when the story gets tough and it looks like all is lost, as a reader you start to wonder the hero must survive because who wrote this down if he dies right now! The author takes this into account and raises the stakes throughout the book, and when all is lost he switches to another character's journal or just abandons the journal style altogether. Pay attention to the chapter names. In conclusion, Zombie Fallout is a fun read. Do not let the reviews of bad grammar or lack of editing stop you from reading this series. I promise you will have all 6 books plus the mini book 3.5 in your kindle before you can ZOMBIES!

Well written series
I am in awe if the way the author has us falling in love with the characters. We can all relate to multiple characters. Getting 8nvolved in the characters, keeps us in the story because we want to see what happens to them. It feels as if we are there with them and experiencing the story also.

Fills in some of the gaps
I've given all the other books a 5 star review but I've had to give this 4. It was a bit of an odd prequel for me. It fills in the gaps but in what seemed like a bit of a far-fetched way. OK, I know that in itself sounds a bit weird when I'm reviewing part of a post-apocalyptic zombie series! It's the same writing style though and I really like Mark's writing style. Good characters. I'd still highly recommend this - it's a quick read so it wont delay you from starting on ZF4!

All becomes clear with the 3.5...
I downloaded this book a while ago, before it had the 3.5 added to the title. At the time i was a little confused by the story, thinking that it was a separate stand alone story. After reading ZF4 all became clear.I enjoyed this story on its own, even though i was a little confused.A great add on and worth the read, adding substance to an already great series.

Zombie Fallout 3.5
I read this in numerical order. It is relevant and not a bad read. I have given it 3 stars as its OK.Having read some of the books after this, I am concerned that the author is starting to run out of ideas. It would be nice to see evidence of an overall direction he is taking.

Good
A really interesting novella into how the virus started. Some parts are not explained as well as i would like, however you just have to let your imagination take over. Some great references to the other books also. It is a must read to go with the series!

explains how the virus started
this lets you know how the virus started so is worth the read ..this really should have been in the first book, i think the reader is being a little bit ripped off, but it,s still a good read..
