Because there is no cloth they will not hold water. As a past Navy Diver, I would use these if diving and working over coral, barnacles or other sharp bottoms. I love how these do not make me sweat as much as other knee pads do as the pads keep the plastic off your skin and allows for better air flow. The joint is as good as any other and is not stiff at all. The strap locks work great and do not come undone as those push button release straps. The strap adjustment could be better.
