Bargain set... but like all tools you must be able to sharpen them!
Important: if you're new to wood carving make sure you read until the end.I've been carving a little while and have quite a few 'high end" gouges from Ashley Iles, Auriou and so on. My reason for buying this set was purely to set up my new grinding/honing station so I was looking for something super cheap with the intention of donating when I'm done. But you know what? They aren't bad.For the same price as a single average Ashley Iles gouge you're getting a comprehensive set of 10 tools and a reasonable carry case. Once sharpened they're actually pretty decent; the metal isn't particularly hard but they feel good in the hand and seem pretty solid overall. Compared to higher-end tools the main issues are the shafts are pretty chunky, are not precisely shaped, are fairly short and the V tool comes to quite a wide rounded bottom as opposed to something fairly fine. But they do take a sharp edge and hold it reasonably well in soft wood provided you keep a bevel angle of well over 20 degrees (which is comfortable for most people anyway). But here's the thing; they do not come nicely ground! And yet that is *perfectly fine*! When woodcarving you quickly discover that even if your tools arrive beautifully sharpened and shaped, you're still going to grind the edge back and re-shape them to your own needs anyway. And even if you wanted to keep them like they arrived, the moment you dull or chip an edge you'll definitely find yourself learning how to sharpen tools pretty quick! All in all, a decent beginner set. But please understand like every other gouge at any price point you must learn to sharpen and profile these things otherwise they'll be next to useless. So budget for some sharpening stones and a weekend of time and you'll be golden.

A whole set for the price of 1 from other makes. These were bought as a gift to be just a cheap starter set but they are actually very good
