Sturdy buttons-- not cheap at all. However I tried to use this bag as a backpack for high school. It worked for about 2 weeks until I noticed the lining on the inside was ripping. However it was holding a ton of weight for a long time and was constantly being lifted from class to class. This bag would be great for a few folders and notebooks, or a sleepover bag, a day bag, anything like that. I just don't recommend keeping a couple textbooks and many folders in it.
