Constant Craving: What Your Food Cravings Mean and How to Overcome Them

More Love, Less Cravings
Doreen Virtue has a doctorate in psychology and has practiced for many years helping recovering alcoholics and drug users. She is also an angel intuitive, and has combined both practices over the years to become the person she is today. In her book, Constant Craving, DV helped to open my eyes towards every craving I have ever had and to understand the meaning behind each one. Fear is neither good nor bad in and of itself; it's one of many survival mechanisms in our arsenal of emotions. It's what we do with that fear (or the different manifestations that arise from fear) that cause our bodies to go in search of the foods that will counter the stress we feel at that particular time, in order to bring the body back into a state of equilibrium, called homeostasis. The term FATS used in the book stands for Fear and its associated emotions of Anger, Tension, and Shame. Doreen goes into each emotion extensively as she explains why you're feeling the way you do, why you crave the foods you crave, and helps you to understand and overcome those FATS feelings by explaining what your body is trying to tell you in order for you to let go of those feelings (and therefore your cravings). Ms. Virtue charts in the back of her book numerous different foods that are craved, what each means, and gives positive affirmations to help you in your process of replacing your food cravings with what each of us needs in our lives: more love of self and others, and more loving support.

Emotional Eating
I've had this book for years, I enjoyed reading it quite some time ago and have recently come back to re-read it, because a lot of new books are coming out on the market that address emotional eating. We all know emotions and eating certain foods are linked, for those of us who like to self-soothe with food, it's a given. However this book does address the specific cravings and what they mean, I'm not sure if all of them ring completely true for absolutely everyone, or I would have given the book five stars, but still, it is a very worthwhile read if you are unable to identify the feelings that you are having, which is surprisingly more common than one would think. It's not going to change your life on it's own, but if you can identify the cravings and the emotions linked then it is easier to do something about it. By making our lives more fulfilling in a different manner, rather than using food we can re-route those cravings for actual life satisfaction rather than food. So I think this book certainly holds a lot of useful information and is worth reading if you need to deal with some emotional eating.

Excellent book in eating disorders
The author figured out the spiritual connection between foods craved and the psychological problem and spiritual solution thereto which stops the craving. This is huge. You cannot explain matter with Spirit and Spirit with matter, and those who would try to prove God with matter can only see Him in the works, as Jesus says plainly in the gospels. But Doreen studied eating disorders and was already a third or fourth generation metaphysician (I am just a first); but her real tie between the food and the possible clues it is providing to what needs healing and then how to heal it, is a huge contribution to field of weight management and bodily attractiveness, not to mention the mental freedom and spiritual growth which result. How can we hope to grow spiritually if we cannot get past the flesh. That last dividend, spiritual progress and growth, is after all why we come to earth. Great book, in my opinion.Thank you Doreen Virtue.

Love Doreen Virtue books!
This was a really interesting book to me packed with a lot of info as to why we crave certain things. It made a lot of sense was easy to read and has a handy chart in the back for quick reference for when you're having that craving and you want to know why! She also includes affirmations to help curb the craving as well as some good tips to keep the cravings away. I read this a few months ago,and still use her tips!

Fun and Essential
This book is a must-have for anyone who is on the nutrition refinement path and especially for counseling other people. I love all of Doreen Virtue's books and projects. This one has great research behind it and is well organized. Although I don't binge, I was fun to list my five top cravings and just look what's behind it and found it very true. This book added more awareness to my life and I am grateful for that. I was slightly disappointed about a reference to use the microwave oven to create an alternative snack. I don't think those two go together. Perhaps the author wanted to appeal to a larger audience?

For Americans Only...
I just purchased the kindle version of this book. First of all, I will say that YES I think there is a lot of good information here.I work with Theta healing and using books like this often gives me a starting place to start pulling negative beliefs and feelings. However, there are a few things here I disagree with.I highly doubt Japanese people crave sushi because they are longing for a more exotic and exciting life, for example.Italian people probably do not crave pasta when feeling unhappy with their love lives and family connections.Do Chinese or Indian people crave rice when longing for a new job? Probably not.So for people from the 'first world', specifically the first-world-English-speaking culture, this book is probably valid. But I would not recommend it to someone who comes from a culture where certain of these foods are just staples.

Constant Insight
Doreen's Virtue's Constant Craving has shot to the top of my list of 'best ever self help' books. Full,of great research, Doreen actually offers practical tips to challenge our destructive behaviors with food - I tried them today and I was shocked at how powerful these spiritual practices really were. This book is a powerful, manual for getting back in touch with our core, but offers practical support while we're working on it. It has clarified experiences I've had for 35 years that Ive never fully understood and I'm a veteran of this genre. I cannot recommend Constant Craving enough if your relationship with food is troubled - 10/10 I'm so excited by this book.

A Truly Enlightening Read & worth the 5 stars I've given it!
This book opened my eyes to problems, a lot of which have come from my early childhood years. I could identify with many scenarios which Doreen described within and my goal now is to try & heal my body, mind & Spirit. Although I'm not sure if I can actually manage it by myself.... & there's where my problem lies. Definitely worth a read though & I highly recommend, spending the short time it takes to read it.

Not very helpful
I thought this book might tell me something about my craving for chocolate but in fact it only taught me things I already knew. Most of the times the author repeats herself. She takes to many examples of drug addicts although you really can't compare someone with a drug addiction to someone who tends to eat to much chocolate...
