No, not the teeth of the zipper. The "pull" is made of metal but the teeth are plastic. I have a VERY old Columbia fleece (20 years old or so) and a new fleece by the same company. Both zippers are made by YKK, a very reputable and long established zipper manufacturer. I've never had a problem with either zipper and frankly plastic teeth are the way to go for this application. The only down-side with the new zipper is that it is that it is too short (in my opinion) being about 5" from the neckline or about 7" total. This leaves little room for reaching through to my shirt pocket.
