A Necessary Text to De-Toxify the World
This is a classic text, employed by conventional therapists to this day. Which is shocking, given not only the nature of some of the contents, but, more importantly, the reputation of its (in)famous author. But the best part, in my opinion, lies in the, to borrow a phrase of Reich's, "topological" nature of this edition. For it includes not only the standard, psychoanalytically-based material (the basis of just about every "character theory" and training for therapists to this day); but, in addition, Reich's footnotes, which qualify the original text by a radical reconstruction of psychoanalytic method--including his own, groundbreaking text.Part Three is equally invaluable as a segue, of sorts, between Reich's earliest methodologies, and his later, vastly different technique. The latter may be studied in two equally seminal--yet controversial--tomes: "The Function of the Orgasm" and "The Cancer Biopathy".The aforementioned footnotes in this edition of "Character Analysis" will give you an indication of where Reich was heading, with regard to his latter works--which are generally considered either one of the greatest achievements of man; or absolute bunk. There is also a great biography, by Myron Sharaf, "Fury on Earth," which, while dated (1983), attempts to provide some context for a more balanced assessment of both the methods: and the man.In short, "Character Analysis" is a legendary text, not only from a conventional point-of-view: but as an important grounding in theory, which even the adherents of Reich's later work underestimate at their own (and their patients!) risk.--Oliver Haddo

I consider this an indispensable “Bible” of transformation and theory.
What can I say! A classic! Ingenious! One has to read for oneself if one wants to know Reich in his own words and decide for yourself the value of his work — without relying on misinformation of this most genius, courageous, and pioneering man who dedicated his life to liberating humanity from its defenses against Life on all levels — personal, familial, societal — and mental and biological.

A very useful book to read his pioneer work on character analysis
A very useful book to read his pioneer work on character analysis. His work has been superseded by his analysand Alexander Lowen who studied with him for many years. For those being trained to be qualified as trained and in a sense certified as analysts, this book was a required study in the first year of the psychoanalytic Institutes or at least the one where i was trained.A very useful read for those interested in this pioneers methods which have been subsequently modified by other later followers.

A Great Book
I liked the lucid exposition of character analysis and the discussion of the emotional plague. This book was an eye opener for me and made me take a good look at myself and my attitudes. Great books do this! I recommend this book to anyone interested in Reich’s theories and psychiatry in general.

Read this book once - no, several times.
A must read for anyone interested in therapy or planning to enter therapy. The human condition demystified. Before I read Character Analysis for the first time many years ago I didn't understand how therapy worked. It was made clear after I read this book.

A tough transformation
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The concepts Wilhelm Reich develops and explains in regard to character are put forward honestly and with the highest integrity. His confidence is based on years of training and a keen analytical ability.I found this book to be complex in nature. Because of the era this book was written, the reasoning and vocabulary chosen it takes a great deal of time and analysis to transform the information provided and understand it in modern day terms.

Wilhelm Reich is right on Time!!
This book is great for psychology and it was on sale for a very low price. I use this book to understand shells people put up to hide their real mental aspects. Great for acting on stage to find out the mental state of your character. Go for it!!!

Sigmund Freud's forgotten heir....
For 30 years and more I've been a critical admirer of Sigmund Freud's writings, especially what I see as their core, his key concept, set out in his writings 'On Sexuality' (Volume 7 of the Penguin Freud Library). I'm also massively persuaded by the insights of Karl Marx, Frederick Engels and Vladimir Lenin. Until recently I knew only the name 'Wilhelm Reich'. I now realise the monumental importance of his insights, combing and advancing the thinking of the others. 'Character Analysis' is one of the keys to understanding WR.....Buy it!....Read it!

Unique Read
Reich has some unique and often controversial ideas. However, I think his direct approach to personality and its development is very valuable.

A real Classic
What a book! What a masterpiece! Wilhelm Reich gives a masterpiece ranging from classical psychoanalysis, to Character Analysis and finally to Orgone Biophysics that even now more than 60 years from its first publication is still way ahead from current conventional psychoanalysis and psychiaty.
