Practice Makes Perfect Mastering Grammar (Practice Makes Perfect Series)

Great for 5th / 6th graders
My son's teacher used this workbook in her class. It is a great way to teach grammar going into middle school and high school as students begin writing more in depth essays. The student has a lesson at the beginning of each grammar item, then goes through and does multiple choice, word match lessons. You know you got the correct answers because you spell out the answer to the question (asked at the top of the lesson) using your answers. This was a great supplement to my son's lesson. I wouldn't say he thinks it is fun (it is grammar), but it has built a baseline understanding of grammar terms for him going into middle school.

Great lessons and practice.
I use this for both of my 7th graders as there grammar worksheets. The lessons are very thorough but not too long, no one gets bored but they are learning a lot. It is great to have the correct answers in the back to check their work. I would recommend this to anyone who needs homeschool grammar worksheets or just supplement to public school.

Great Resource
I am an 8th grade English teacher who has always struggled to adequately infuse the parts of speech and usage into my instruction. This book is organized in a way that one can create mini units on the parts of speech, punctuation, and capitalization. Also, each exercise has a "trivia" question that motivates kids to answer all of the questions to find the answer. I would have given the book 5 stars if the reading passages were longer. I was hoping to use this to help with reading and grammar. However, since the book is called Mastering Grammar, my expectations may have been unrealistic. Overall, a great resource that is clearly organized in a way that a teacher could use it on arrival.

Excellent grammar workbook
Have only skimmed this workbook as my fifth grade son still has a couple of chapters left in the previous book in this series, "Exploring Grammar." It seems like it will be just as helpful. He's learned more than he would just by doing grammar work in school.

Good Practice Resouce
This is not what I would build a unit around, but as supplemental material, it gets the job done. They are also great to leave for a sub, and here's why. They come with little word puzzles built in the the student can solve by getting the correct answer. Therefore, if you have kids that need to be correct, or love a good puzzle, it will force them to take a second look at their work. The puzzles are ok, some are interesting, some not. There are small blurbs at the start of the sheets that setup the puzzle. These will not take an entire class period to complete, bring a few.

Great methodical learning experience
Loved the way the main points were summarized and followed by excercise drills. My son who is a slow learner picked up the concepts so quickly without getting bored. I am very happy that I got the book. I wod suggest buying the " Exploring Grammar" book before using this book

American themed.
It does help with grammar but is very American which may not engage British children. I have yet to come across American English spelling though. However I am only half way through.
