Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad

My 2-3/4 y/o granddaughter is in love! Of course she wants it read to her over and over.Following this purchase, three more Ladybug Girl books are coming. Also I cluged together an identical Ladybug Girl costume for cos play fun.Ladybug Girl, Lulu has a family with a Dad, Mom and dismissive older brother. The story unfolds and emphasizes Lulu's ability to amuse herself and her can-do spirit.A thoroughly enjoyable story.

I loved Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad. I was hesitant to read it at first. I have taught first graders and preschoolers for 15 years each, but I could not bring my innerself to make the connection to the 'bug' world, or so I thought. After I substituted in a Pre-K class last week, and one little fellow kept saying he was Iron Man, it forced me to take a look at the Squad. First of all, it took me back to my childhood days of imagination and playing in our backyard. Then I was saddened that the book came to an end. Now, I'm a fan and will have to invest in other books in the series. I think young children should be introduced to super heroes who are more on their own level. There is much to be said for the wholesome innocence of these superheroes. Children of today should meet such heroes who are strong in character with good morale values. I can't wait to read the story to this class of preschoolers on October 4th during Read for the Record! Perhaps it will spawn the imaginations of these children to find heroes with whom they can relate. Hopefully my grandson will become a Bug Squad member in a few years.

My daughter loves this book. She says that she's Butterfly Girl. I love the lessons this book teaches, including gathering the courage to say you're sorry and try to make amends. I think the whole series is excellent. This is great for teaching how you have in your mind how everything is going to be perfect and then you put people in the plan and it doesn't go your way and that's okay, it's still a great day even if you're not always in control. So true even for adults. Excellent book.

this was a gift and the child loves it

I am a huge fan of Ladybug Girl, the first three books are heartfelt, sincere, and entertaining. This book had a little too much sugary-goodness, "cheese" factor. Problems are solved in this book not by a character's understanding but by the author's reasoning that children are going to be reading this book and they should learn to be understanding. The behavior is modeled in the book that children should be apologetic when they've wronged a friend but it doesn't give a lot of reasons as to why. When Ladybug girl apologizes it's referred to as a difficult thing to do. Why is it difficult? Why should it be done even though it's hard? This and other happenings in the book are going to have to be discussed at a greater length than the previous books in order for the children reading, or being read to, to understand properly. The ending was equally as bad because the book told a story about Ladybug girl listening to those around her and their wishes. But what happens at the end of the book? The Bug Squad goes and invades Ladybug Girl's brother privacy despite his wishes to be left alone.

I bought this for my granddaughter and she loves it

My 5 yr old still loves this book a year later. It's beautifully illustrated, an interesting read, and the story about getting along with others is a highly teachable moment. I find that so true now that my daughter is out on the playground trying to negotiate with others. Don't hesitate to buy this if you like the others in the series.

I enjoy the 'moral' of each of the Ladybug Girl stories but the wording can be a little odd...it doesn't always flow the way you think a children's book should. The books do reflect an adventurous spirit in Ladybug girl...which I love. Just wish my little girl enjoyed reading the books as much as I do.
