A good EASY TO READ compass with rugged military inspired construction.
THIS compass is an amazing device. I've owned other lensatic units before, but none that show the heading as clearly as this one. Simply aim and look into the lens to see your bearing. It's that simple. Also, the straight edge allows this compass to be placed on a map to plot paths easily when navigating over land. This can also be used in some cases for navigation on water if you have land references that are visible. I've even used this to triangulate AM radio sources on a map for position fix.The solid body of the compass is top notch while the lens can be focused to your particular vision, making reading the bearing effortless. It looks to be a version of some form of military compass, or at least to have military DNA.I've also taken it out with a map of the city and taken bearings on cross referenced buildings in relation to each other and found that the thing is quite accurate. You will have to pre-charge the glow in the dark components of the dial, but the glow seems to last reasonably long. Remember that even though it fades over time, you night vision will increase as time goes on, so the time is decent before you have to charge it up again with a flashlight. The dial is good as well. if you hold it level, the oil within it will allow it to float effortlessly to magnetic north without waggling around.Overall, I would say that this compass has a good home in both my hiking tool bag as well as my boat bag. It's a very good fall-back or even a main compass depending on the situation. At its current price, you cant go wrong. The inclinometer is also a neat feature and the needle moves freely as long as it is level. I haven't really had a chance to use it in practice yet, but I plan to do a full YouTube Review of this when I get the next chance to go hiking and or sailing with it.

Great deal, very good workmanship
Just need a simple compass, oil filled, this happened to be more affordable than most. Never mind that it weighs 42 lbs (not really) and has more functions than a Swiss army knife (almost). Very well made and fun to use, get an Atlas too, your phone nav apps won't always be there to help you get home.

Surprisingly solid construction.
For such a cheap compass I did not expect such a solid build. I was pleasantly surprised. The clinometer is completely superfluous and prevents reading the compass directly when closed. I immediately removed it. The reference chart on the back is a very nice touch, but it is in EXTREMELY small type, gonna need a magnifying glass to read that. Black on black for that chart makes it hard to read too, I'm thinking about filling mine in with white paint and then leaving the raised letters black for high contrast. At this price, though, this is an extremely solid choice for a low price point hiking compass. Everything you need in well built package and at an extremely reasonable price.

Yessir, pull the trigger on the purchase.
It was exactly as they said it was. Built well, and not some rinky-dinky plastic. Nice heavy feel...did not feel cheap. Dial was op and did not seem to be a mess. Yep, I'd recommend it. -g
