Endura 4 Lightweight Folding Pocket Knife, PlainEdge

This is my first spyderco knife and I love it. I have carried it everyday since I bought it and thats been about a week. This knife is big, bigger than I was expecting. I like big knives and I like to have a tactical blade on me at all times. I have some smaller blades I use for using odd jobs but I have also been using this knife to test edge retention and sharpness. I has exceeded both, it's so sharp and is staying sharp good. I carry four blades with me everyday and sometimes my glock. So keep in mind this when you are looking at getting this knife. Some people grumble about weight and heavy knives, truthfully, I don't feel any of my knives on me. I have two clipped on my left pocket(Small and Medium), another in my right pocket(Very small), and now my Endura(Large) clipped on my right pocket. I seem to be grabbing the Endura a lot more than the other knives cause I am right handed and it opens so fast. I love this knife and everyone I show it to just drops their mouth and owes over it. I love explaining all the features of it and comparing it to my other knives as it blows them out the water. You get what you pay for that's for sure, and you can see it, feel it, in hand, and in use. I also love the fact that no one has a knife like me and I definitely have the coolest knife around. This is by far the best knife I have and I think I will be replacing my mid size knife with the dragonfly here soon. I do like to have a cheap(but sharp) blade(small) on me cause I don't have to worry about messing it up. For when I cut wire, putty, or cutting around metal. So I will probably keep my gerber mine para frame, I have for sure got my seven bucks out of it. If I got to go tactical or self defense, the Endura is getting pulled out, hands down. It feels so secure in the hand, I can't even slide my hand, when I get a good grip on it. Best jimping I have ever seen personally, or in hand! Very strong feeling knife, no play anywhere in blade, and is very tough feeling. I give this knife a 10 out of 10!!! Update--I have had this knife a little over a year now and still holding up great. I keep an edge on it but it's more of a self defense blade for me so I don't use it a lot unless I am cutting an apple or eating steak.

I am a huge fan of COLD STEEL knives. I have several COLD STEEL knives and have used the as a EDC knife. The COLD STEEL VOYAGER XL, full serration has served me well all the years I have carried it. I have a COLD STEEL VOYAGER XL Tanto blade which I use when riding my bike. They are both excellent knives which have proved themselves useful in combat, every day use, and nearly everything I have thrown at them. The only problem is they are BIG knives, which is perfect when I need large knives, but sometimes when I am wearing shorts or light weight clothing I need a knife which can be both lighter and yet, still be an excellent knife. In the Corps I had a few guys who carried Spyder co knives so I was passingly familiar with the Spyderco brand. After realizing my need for a lighter EDC knife I looked at COLD STEEL again, but didn't see what I wanted in a smaller lighter knife. It was then that I looked at both KERSHAW and SPYDERCO. Kershaw often uses a liner lovk for their knives. To me thats a deal breaker, because when a kife using a liner lock meets formidable opposition there is a tendency for the liner lock to slip to the side and the knife blade collapse or the liner lock simply fail. In combat you are only as good as your tools. When I looked at the Spyderco Endura 4 I saw that they had a frame lock which is far more stout and dependable. Then, I noticed the shape of the knife blade and quality and saw that the blades are full flat-ground VG-10 with a thinner highly refined cutting edge and a larger opening hole. I went on Youtube and watched 'NutinFancy's Review on the SPYDERCO Endura-4 and with that I decided to purchase the blade. After receiving the blade I can say with clarity that the SPYDERCO Endura-4 is an excellent, well balanced, quality knife that is light weight and made with longevity in mind. The blade was OK sharp out of the box, but after a few passes on my Lansky knife sharpener it is now razor sharp. The Endura-4 easily and effortlessly slices like a razor blade straight down a sheet of paper without any pressure being applied. The blade tip is needle sharp and glides right into the produce I tested it on. The weight of the blade is amazingly light and will serve me well when I am wearing summer clothing. The color of the knife is blue but it is not light blue, nor dark blue, it is a mix of grey and blue. I highly recommend this knife if you keep in mind that it is a light weight knife which will serve you well in average situations.

So, I researched different knives for several months. I have never spent more than $20 on a knife, and I already had a Leatherman Wave- so the price was a little off-putting. I did know I wanted a bigger blade than was on the Leatherman, so I had my eye on anything over 3 inches. After plenty of Googling it seems there are not only a ton of Spyderco fans but many of them love the Endura 4- so I decided to order it after comparing similar-sized Benchmade, Kershaw, and Buck knives. Needless to say I made the right choice. I think it'll be hard to find a better bang for your buck from any of those other manufacturers than you're getting with this blade. I carry the Endura 4 with me whenever I leave the house. It's super-duper light, and clips nicely to my pants pocket or suit jacket for work or any other occasion. And if you don't like where the clip comes from the factory, it has 3 other mounting holes to satisfy the fickle. The handle is nice and "grippy" and seems very durable- and it's reinforced with a skeletonized steel frame for added rigidity. And the handle will fit in just about any hand- it's longer than the widest part of my hand- so it's safe for doing heavy cutting. But the main reason this knife is so popular probably has more to do with the blade. According to my research the VG-10 steel Spyderco uses is the same type of steel that's used in those expensive and acclaimed Japanese chef knives. What does that mean to the average person? It cuts and slices like butter and keeps a sharp edge for longer than a lesser "stainless" steel blade. Seriously- go Google "VG-10." And the best part is, when you go to sharpen it, it takes a nice razor-sharp cutting edge fairly quickly. The blade is also thinner (known as a full flat-ground) than some pocket knives, but don't mistake thin for flimsy- because there's nothing low quality about this knife. The flat ground blade allows it to slice more effectively than a thicker blade- which makes it very versatile. Anyway, so you're probably wondering what I use this blade for? Well everything really. -Cooking. It's a great slicer for meat and vegetables. I have prepared many many meals with the knife. -Cutting through boxes, tie-line, zip-ties, rope, tape etc. And when I loan it to co-workers, I always get compliments on how nice, light, and sharp it is. -Camping. Want to cook meals or whittle sticks? No problem, it does it all. In the 6 or so months I've owned it, I've sharpened it three times and oiled it with a bit of 3-in-1, and that's about it. The fit and finish is still like new. No extra wiggle or play. The blade still locks firmly into place with a satisfying and heavy click. Oh, and one other thing. I have heard reports that this blade isn't entirely rust proof (most stainless steel isn't except Spyderco's H-1 steel blades). I just make sure to always dry it after I use it with food or water, and always clean the blade with some water and a soft sponge at the end of the day if it has anything on it. As long as you do this, you should have zero problems. And if you're spending as much as this on a knife, I don't see why you wouldn't do this anyway.

I won't get into the specs of the knife since that's been reviewed at least 60 million times by now but here's my thoughts on the knife.. I recently retired the tenacious I'd been carrying for over 2 years and decided to step up to the endura 4. I'll be honest, at first I wasn't too sure.. Don't get me wrong it was an excellent and well made knife but when you've been carrying something else for so long it takes a while for your hand to adjust to the feel of a new knife. The handle is noticeably thinner, I wasn't used to having the finger grips, and it definitely doesn't deploy as fast as the tenacious. Having said that, it's been about 3 weeks now and this knife is just awesome. I'm used to the feel of it now and it fits my hand like a glove. On top of that the deployment is much faster and smoother after breaking in. So be aware, if you've been carrying something else a long time you're going to have to give yourself a few weeks to adjust to this one but it's well worth giving it a shot. A lot of the reviews talk about the stiff deployment and being hard to close one handed. This is simply not the case for me. I loosened the pivot pin just barley, and opened the knife a lot to break it in and it flies out as smooth as butter. Closing it is also very easy to do one handed with a little practice so I think a lot of these people just haven't carried the knife long enough to figure it out. The nicest thing about this knife is the blade steel. It came razor sharp and after 3 weeks it still shaves hair. I've used it mostly to open boxes at work and cut up fish for bait as well as skinning several catfish and still haven't actually sharpened this knife. It will lose the ability to shave hair but will still have a nice working edge, and a few swipes on the finest stone of my sharp-maker and it's back to shaving again. That's all I've had to do. I can promise you a lesser steel would've required a complete resharpining by now after cutting through fish bones. Also I've gotten it wet plenty of times and have had zero issues with rust. The size, edge retention, and rust resistance have made this knife an ideal fishing companion. This knife is a big a folder.. Everyone knows that. I personally prefer big folders due to my job, outdoor hobbies, and living on a farm but be aware, if you don't like a large manly man knife then this is not for you. The only con I can think of is that I had scratches on the pocket clip the very first day so I went ahead and sanded all the black paint off of it and I think it looks even better that way. This isn't really a hit on the knife just something to keep in mind. Overall this is just one awesome edc knife and I've owned just about every brand. It deploys fast, locks up tight, feels great in the hand, has the size to tackle just about any job, holds an edge very well, and offers multiple carry options.. The list goes on. For the price it just doesn't get any better than this. Another homerun for spyderco.

I have had this knife for a few weeks now, and I have really been liking it. Out of the box it was scary sharp; and I have had some sharp knives. Its been holding an OK edge, but personally I don't mind sharpening my knives every few weeks, even If I have a knife that can hold an edge better than the VG-10; I still sharpen it every couple of weeks. First thing is that the blue in the picture is not even close to what you get, I knew this when I bought the knife, but it seems that some have failed to research there knife enough to know what they are getting, so yes it does come with a light blue color that looks very good and fits right into the winter months. I overall like the look and feel of the knife, the FRN handle has much more grip that any G-10 out there(which can be a good and bad thing). I like the blue color on it, but it does look a tad childish so I usually take my tenacious when I am out and about, and then use the big blade on the Endura for your standard box opening, garage work, yard work, house work etc. To sum it up, I use my Endura like crazy during the weekend, and I use my tenacious when I am out of the house or at work, mainly because it doesn't attract too much attention (I plan to replace my "out of the house knife" with either a Sage or a Manix 2 here in the coming weeks.) But this is just my opinion One problem that I have with this knife is the spine lock; yeah, not my favorite opening type, and let me tell you why. First off the Endura does take a bit of effort to open even if you loosen the blade just a bit. But its not hard, just get ready to use a bit of wrist every time you deploy it. Another reason I don't like the spine lock is because its not great for one hand closing. I have been used to a Kershaw liner lock for many years, and going to this was hard because not only is it harder to get to, but you loose a lot of control over the blade with you try to close it with one hand, and I have actually cut myself once do to this(Once again, just a preference).And lastly, I just find spine locks boring especially after having the close to automatic opening Kershaw leek. You also can't do any of the fun spydie opening techniques that everyone does due to the spine lock(you can but it will take more effort than required with other spydercos) like the drop, the middle finger flick, and even the thumb flick. So if you are going to get this knife, get used to doing the manual thumb opening. But the reason the knife still gets five stars is because at the end of the day I need my knife to perform, and not look cool when I open it. It does have a very nice click when you deploy the knife, also when you are in the yard working and you quickly pull out your knife I almost always snap my wrist to give a knife leverage, but when you are in public you can't whip out your knife, and snap it open like that which is why I keep it for yard work and stuff. And lastly the reason that I got this knife was because of the BIG 3.75 inch VG-10 blade that just performs like no other. When I am cutting cardboard with my smaller knives I always run into the handle ruining the good cut that I was making. But with this big blade you will have to problem cutting through anything.

A review of the Spyderco Endura 4 The Short Review: 5 out of 5 stars. For The Long Review ..... get a cup of coffee, pull up a chair, sit back, read on and enjoy...... This is MY review or in other words, a Blue Collar, Hard Working, knows up from down, the value of a dollar that's earned, rootsy kind of guy that wishes the IRS would stay out of his back pocket and God should stay in his heart. A Yes Sir and Yes Ma'am, bone fide Country Boy, straight shooting, hit your target dead on kinda review is what you are going to get from me, No Bullcrap! That's what you get with all my reviews and that goes for my review of the Endura 4 knife made by Spyderco. Now for this review you should know that, I am a "Knife Guy" but I am NOT a Spyderco knife fan. I know Spyderco makes good knives and lots of different kinds but they just have never been my thing. Keep this in mind as you read on. On a personal note there are a lot of people who are more knowledgeable than me when it comes to knives. Really the only thing that I can tell you about them is that the first toy my father gave me while I was still in the cradle was a bone handled Case pocket knife. I cut my teeth on that knife and I have never been without a "blade" of one kind or another ever since. So now after 50 years or so of all things knives, I can tell the ones that can cut it and the ones that cannot. (All stretching of the truth and puns intended.) So, what do I think about the Spyderco Endura 4? Well let me tell you, the Endure can cut it and then some! I think it is a fantastic knife! I would give it 10 stars if I could. The only fault I have with the knife is how you flip open the knife blade. Instead of a thumb stud Spyderco uses a big hole (13mm) in the blade to catch your finger/thumb in to flip open the knife. This is more of me not being used to this style of opening system than the knife design so no points deducted. While I can flip open the blade on this knife (the blade has good bushings), it's just that I need more practice to be as fast as I would like to be with this knife. I need to add that this lock blade knife closes by pushing down the back spring indention. This can either be good or bad, just depends on your preference. It's fine for me on this knife. With all that said the blade is 3 and 7/8 inches long with the edge of the blade being 3 and ½ inches long and comes razor sharp. The blade is more or less a drop point design and a true FFG- full flat grind. The widest point of the blade is 1 and ¼ inches at the hilt end. The blade is 1/8 inches at it's thickest along the top of the spine. The best thing and why the knife costs so much is the outstanding blade steel. Oh Yeah, we are talking fine Japanese steel here! The blade is VG-10 stainless steel made in Seki City - Japan! This is some Good Stuff here! (Keep in mind bang for buck. There are better steels made but they will cost you too.) VG-10 steel sharpens fairly easy and holds an edge well. While VG-10 steel will rust if exposed to moisture for sometime, normal blade maintenance will prevent this. Just dry the knife off and coat the blade with some light weight machine oil (3n1 oil or WD-40 works well). Use vegetable oil instead of machine oil if you will be using this knife for food preparation. Just use a small amount of oil (a few drops on each side of the blade). Wipe the oil on, then wipe it off the blade using an old clean rag, being careful not to cut yourself and that should do it. My wife has a pink Spyderco Delica (its a little Endura) that I purchased for her several years ago and she has had no problems with this knife staying sharp or rusting and she uses it every day to cut up vegetables and fruits to eat. In fact her Delica is the reason I wanted an orange colored Endura for my birthday present this year. She had it engraved too for a super nice gift for me! More about the knife.... The length of the knife open is 8 and ¾ inches long and 5 inches closed. The knife has a very functional slim black pocket clip that can be mounted on either side and on either end. This allows for the knife to be carried with tip up or tip down and right or left hand carry as so desired. The handles are what Spyderco calls FRN which stands for fiberglass reinforced nylon. I find them to offer great traction for your hand and the pattern reminds me of fish scales. It should also be noted that the handles are skeleton lined stainless steel for light weight and strength. According to the Spyderco website the knife weights 3.6 ozs. All I can say is for its size it is a lightweight knife. The Spyderco Endura knife can be had in several different colors and the colors change from time to time. The changing colors adds to their collectability so if you see a color you like then you better be getting it while you can. I personally loved the orange color. I have lots of tactical black knives so the bright orange color was a nice change for me. Also having an orange colored knife is a strange thing. You can pull out your "Orange" handled knife no matter what size it is and people just ignore it. Instead they act like it is a tool, a safety/rescue knife or box cutter, anything but what it is a razor sharp cutting machine. I pulled out this knife today in a restaurant to cut a steak and cheese sub in half and no one gave me a second glance. I have used my (small) black handled Kershaw Skyline knife to cut up a steak in a restaurant before and I thought they would call the police on me. People were almost freaking out, never mind everyone's restaurant supplied steak knife was larger that my Skyline knife. Good thing I did not use my knife to cut up the steak to resemble a gun. Seems like people have lost all common since these days, banishing a steak-pistol would probably have gotten someone killed as the "herd" stampeded for the door! Well any-who, the bottom line is if you are looking for a great large size EDC (every-day carry) knife then the Endura might just be for you. If you need the same knife in just a little smaller and maybe in a friendlier version (great for smaller hands too) then get yourself a Spyderco Delica. Either way I think you'll enjoy your purchase for many years to come. I am pretty-sure that Nutnfancy has a good video on this knife on "U-tube", it's worth a look-see. Comes very sharp ,light wieght. Nice knife

This is the bigger version of the Delica 4 and like many other Spyderco knives it feels great in the hand. Deployment is easy using the spyder hole. As others have commented, a very slight bevel around the spyder hole would be great, but it's just a nitpick. If you are used to the Delica 4's this blade is long and has more thickness, but you will be surprised about how light and durable the whole knife is. Like any knife, it's all about purpose of use. I reach for the Endura for heavier duty cutting and slicing. I'd probably bring this blade hiking and camping if I planned on feathering wood or cutting thick rope. Is it an EDC knife? If you replace the clip so it sits deeper in your pocket then maybe. The overall knife size is in that gray area where some will say it is a perfect EDC size and others will prefer something smaller. The blade still is VG-10 which is one of my favorites due to its sharpness retention, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. The Endura comes from the factor very sharp, but I take it a step further. I sharpen this blade at 15* each side and go up to 6000 grit. The blade will come out scalpel sharp and hold an edge for a long time. Lock-up is rock solid. Jimping on the blade gives your thumb a good grip without being sharp. All in all, I highly recommend adding the Endura 4 to your collection.

普段、調理する時使っています。手にした感じが良いです。ブレード長も果物、野菜の皮むきに適していると思います。 包丁だけでは、つまらないので、普段使いしていると結構楽しめます。 参考ですが、研ぎ直すと良いです。ショルダーを落として、少しハマグリ刃にすると、使い易くなります。

ちょっとした作業にドラゴンフライを愛用しています。 調理にも使えるサイズを考えて、デリカと迷ったのですが、結局果物の皮むきが楽、という理由で、エンデューラ4を選びました。家庭内での調理に使わない方（日本人）には、大きすぎるので、多分デリカが吉です。 （研いで使うのが当然という上級レベルの方はともかく）私レベルでは、箱出しの切れ味も評判通りで、自分でこれ以上の切れ味に仕上げるのは無理かなと感じました。 ワンハンドでのオープン／クローズも、大振りなのに滑らかで気持ちが良いです。 ドラゴンフライのように、刃元にフィンガーチョイルがあるわけじゃないですが、ロック解除して強めに振り戻しても、刃が直接指に当たらない形状になっていて安心です。 ＜追記＞ 左利きなので、クリップを付け替えて使っていましたが、調理には何かと邪魔になるので、結局クリップは外しています。スパイダルコは刃の面積が広めなので、刻んだ食材を刃で掬うことも可能ですが、この時にクリップが邪魔になってしまいます。 通常ならワンハンドオープン時の指置きになりますので、クリップがあった方が使い易いです。

Das Messer kommt schon sehr scharf und lässt sich einfach auch so halten. Es liegt sehr gut in der Hand. Nix hat spiel.

程よい重量です。刃長が思ったよりも長いと感じるかもしれません。 フェザースティックを作ったり、調理をしたりするのに最適でした。 EDC的ではないかもですが、持っていきたいナイフです。
