Phenomena autonomous robot sensor!
Phenomenal sensor for use atop your autonomous robot! You must be able to program to use it. It comes with a little bit of sample code in C. This is an older design, but works exceptionally well indoors. I verified its max range outdoors at night is around 16,000 mm/52 feet (perfect conditions). Indoors it easily works to 8,000 mm/26 feet. The Windows tools it works with are bloated and might have security issues (I am a cybersecurity professional, and they worry me!). I recommend using 3rd party tools (robot os, C/C++, Python, etc). Got device tested in minutes, working with my robot in hours. Exceptional device for the price!

Great product
The Lidar came nicely packaged and protected. All the pieces were in the box with instructions for a quick start. I haven't used it yet, I am building a turtlebot and planning to use this lidar for it. The nice thing about this lidar is that it has a standard lidar shape so I was able to find a model to 3d print for its support.

Good for me (noob)
Works out of the box. This is my first LiDAR and the less expnsive brither to the A2M8, which i will eventually use for current project. I have had no operational issues while learning the ins and outs of ROS. The mechanical operqtion does have a weird humming noise that sounds like grinding, and that is my main con.pro:cheapeasy setuplibraries and support for projects using Python, ROScons:weird grinding noise when operatingthe connector is located on the bottom therefor i cannot sit the Lidar on the floor since the connected wire will bear the weight causing the LiDAR to tilt. Maybe it does not matter once its in my vehicle, but as a solo setup its a huge ain to make my own setup for testing/prototyping

Purchased RPLIDAR A1 M8 in the month of April 21. Unboxed it and checked today .
Purched RPLIDAR A1 M8 from Amazon US in the month of April 21 . Unboxed it and checked today by connecting to PC , started scanning and transmitting the data to the PC. But after five minutes of running the device stopped and not working. Contacted SlamTech , manufacturer . Manufacturer has adviced to conatct amazon for after sale service. I want to know , what is the warranty for this product. sudden failure of device looks to be a defective product. If such failures happen , credibility of the product will be lost. Kindly revert on the wararnty of this Device.

Works out of the box for any Robotics application where LiDARs are needed
I used this in my robot car and the results are amazing. It’s easy to use and bring up with the right packages. One suggestion would be to have the connector at a more convenient location but considering it is mounted on top that is okay.

Older (though cheaper) Model - Good for Learning
I received this, but it has a lot of exposed components, drive belt etc. so I returned it for the newer (though more expensive) A2 model.This unit is probably a good choice if you want to get started, as it is probably the least expensive LiDAR available, but wasn't good for my application because of all of the exposed components.The easily available software is Windows, so if you have Mac or Linux, it will take a little work (same for the A2).

Good beginner lidar
Good beginner lidar. Honestly, I wouldn't spend more than this level. If you're going to spend more, save and get a Velodyne 16-line. This does the trick for 2D SLAM navigation.

DO NOT BUY if you use Python
Slamtec has changed their firmware (1.29) in their latest hardware and that has broken all available Python libraries. These Lidars WILL NOT WORK with Python. Slamtec says they don't support Python and do not intend to fix these.

Brauchbar und günstig.
Ich benötigte für eine Baubewilligung 2D-Profile und habe dieses Gerät deswegen bestellt. Nach längerem Suchen fand ich eine fertige PC-Software hiefür. Es stellte sich heraus, daß sich (U.A. je nach USB-Kabellänge) verschiedene Drehzahlen und daraus resultierende Meßfehler einstellten und ich habe daher die Profile mittels Laserentfernungsmesser und digitalem Neigungsmesser umgerechnet/skaliert und damit brauchbar gemacht. Der Preis erscheint mir als sehr günstig.
