Nikon AF FX Fisheye-NIKKOR 16mm f/2.8D Fixed Lens with Auto Focus for Nikon DSLR Cameras

This is a great super-wide, really nice clarity compared to other, excellent build-quality, and the F/2.8 aperture is great in low-light and to get a little bit of bokeh. AF is snappy and quick, as it should be on something this wide. Of course this AF-D lens is run by an IN-CAMERA focus motor, so be sure of your compatibility.I've been using this lens on both Full-Frame and Cropped-Sensor cameras. While it really does feel like a Fisheye lens on my Full Frame D700, I actually like it even better on my Cropped D90, where it's converted into about a 24mm lens. If you have a cropped sensor, and have been wanting a Super-wide, you should really consider this lens. I also have the Nikon 10-24mm and the Nikon 20mm AF-D, and on a cropped sensor this lens feels very similar to the 20mm on FF, as the most extreme distortion is cropped from the edges. This lens is probably cheaper than other super-wide alternatives, especially considering the 2.8 aperture.The build is great, metal and sturdy. The front element is the big issue for some, as it protrudes enough to need a special lens-cap and too much to use standard filters. There's the hazard of damaging it if you're in rough settings, just like with the 14-24 2.8. I founded the included cap to fit pretty well, nicely snug but easy to pull of, though i know some people modify them for a more secure fit.This lens has a funny system to accept filters at the Rear Element. It comes with a clear filter installed, and there are other color-options. The filter can be removed if fidelity is critical.Great lens. Small, Sturdy, Fast, Wide.

It is very sharp! sharper than I thought and if I hold it level, the distortion is reduced. Software can reduce the distortion entirely. The reason why I mention the fact that I can reduce the distortion is that this can take the place of an ultra-wide angle lens at 30% of the weight of a Nikkor 14-24. It can fit in your pocket and so light.The special effects are awesome for just about any type of photography. it is truly a fun lens for some funky angles that will make your images different and unique.

this is an excellent lens. i can stand across the street and get the whole shot of the building now. it's great for goofy close-ups, too. why did i take one star away? the front lens cap is too loose. many times, i go into my small bag for this lens and find the cap is not on it. i'm confident that i will eventually damage the glass unless i find a solution, e.g., buying a small lens bag to keep it in. for what you pay for this lens, you would think that the people at nikon would have been smart enough to include a soft or hard case for this lens like they have for other lenses.

I have used this lens on at least 5 occasions now and have experienced great results with it. If I had any complaint with this product it would be with the lens cover, a rather cheap plastic cover that looks like something that came off the end of a pipe, come-on Nikon I am sure you could do better than that to protect such a wonderful light capturing instrument.

Love this lens. I especially like how fast it is, f/2.8.Very clear, gives a very good fisheye perspective.Get up close for best photograph.I have used this lens for night sky photography, it pulls in lots of light and a great swath of the sky.

the rating would be like 4.75...wish the lens cap was more secure. overall the lens is nice/small/light. I stick it in my pocket or one of my small bags, when I pull it out the lens cap typically slips off. that's the only reason I didn't give it the full 5 stars .

A couple of strips of Gaffer Tape snugs it up well enough. The lens: I bought this after a lot of thought about whether or not this was just 'a lark' / toy / Not Serious as a purchase, or whether I'd actually use it much. Although I haven't shot anything much lately (too much else going on at the moment), I did immediately take a good series of shots just around the house and the yard (and the sky, up and down the street, the mailbox + yard + house + neighbors yard + cul-de-sac (all in 1 shot). This thing is amazing. I'm learning that you can take 'fairly normal' looking shots if the main subject matter is horizontal across the center of the frame, or wild-and-crazy, earth-bending shots with just a little tilt of the lens. Night sky shots are simply awesome. This thing is serious fun, and I'm just getting started. It's not going to cure my fascination with telephoto zooms (birds in flight etc), but wide-angle with the fisheye is making me reevaluate using my 20-35mm zoom more often. I love this lens. (Looked long and hard at the Sigma 15mm, but so far glad I got the Nikon instead...)
