ValueTale Set (Multiple Volume Value Tales Book Set) Hardcover – January 1, 1979

The 27 lightly used books arrived quickly and were all in excellent condition. These books are very special and I recently gave my set to my daughter for her son. I discovered my son had hoped I was saving them for his kids. These books obviously made a big impression on my adult children, so naturally I looked for another set. (Grammys do that kind of stuff) 5-stars to the vender.

So impressed, basically brand new set of books for a quarter of the price.

We had a set for our children which became among their favorites … the set has been passed between siblings but we thought it time to purchase another set moving between families … we are really glad we did.

Dr. Spencer Johnson, and Ann Donegan Johnson do a terrific job (30 - 40 years ago...!), writing the "Childhood Character Development" Value Tales series.I remembered over the decades how empowering and informative these stories are for young children's developing and inquisitive minds.Children as young as 3 - 12 years old can learn the many ways that these heroes embodied abstract concepts like sharing, responsibility, honesty, saving, and learning.... etc.... The attributes are learned through well-told stories about real life heroes, such as Marie Curie, Eleanor Roosevelt, the Mayo Brothers, the Wright Brothers, Jackie Robinson, Amelia Earhart, and Cesar Chavez.The Spencer's told 30 - 40 real life Values Stories .... and endeared the famous tales to generations of children, parents, and grandparents...!We are expecting our first grandchild in 7 to 10 days. I surprised my daughter and her husband by ordering the largest Values Series collection that I could find via Amazon online, for their baby shower last week. And then the second largest collection I could locate, I also ordered.... to set aside for when my young-adult son begins his family.These books are precious antiques.... and are still sturdy enough to survive another couple of generations of thoughtful and adventurous reading.It isn't easy to raise children with a deep sense of honor, high moral values, and character -- these days. Thank goodness for the Johnson's well crafted Character Development stories...!TLN Colorado*

These books were to be a holiday gift to my grandchildren. The ad claimed they were in ''good' condition. Most books were torn and bent on the book covers and all were FILTHY! They were laden with dust and dirt! I was shocked when I saw these books and the shipping box was sloppily packed and obviously reused several times! I would be embarrassed to give them to anyone!

Stories are wonderful in that they touch on still relevant values. They also share some interesting insights into the lives of some historically significant people. However, I don't like the style of story-telling.Each story includes a fictional character to represent the 'conscience' of the subject-character, but it's not clear to a young reader. An adult must clarify. And even then, the concept of a 'conscience' is a little too abstract for children - especially when the purpose of the story is to convey the importance of personal character and a little insight to history. I would prefer a more straight-foreward style of storytelling.

I adore this set and watching children read it. While the words are a bit 80s/ethnocentric it is overall well intentioned and children love it. The bonus is all of my friends in their 30s and 40s squeal with delight at memories of these books as children.

I was disappointed in the number of books I received for the amount I paid. 8 books. I feel there was deception from this company. my children loved these books growing up and I wanted to give a set to my grandchildren after the family set was damaged by water.
