Good, but not great
I bought this to use for needlework and results are mixed. Magnifiers you wear around the neck and rest on your chest are always a little awkward, and I expected that. Unfortunately, the location of the small higher magnification area is just in the wrong place, at least for me. And, you can't see anything through it, unless you close one eye and squint. So, you have to shift the magnifier, or hold your head at an awkward angle to see through the regular magnifier. If it wasn't for that, it would be great. The magnifier is clear, and the light is a good level for close work without being too bright.

Good lighted magnifier for crafters
I bought this item for my mother, who does needlepoint and complained of eye strain. She likes it very much. The size of the lens is excellent and the bright light is a plus. The only problem is the lack of instructions—except for a sticker on the battery compartment. Diagrams on the Amazon page and previous user comments helped a lot, but it was trial and error to discover the easiest way for Mom to open the battery compartment, given the limited strength in her fingers. We found it was easiest if she laid the magnifier on a flat surface with the battery compartment closest to her and the sticker facing up. Then, she was able to press the indentations in the little silver buttons at its top using both thumbs and simultaneously lift up on the lid with her thumbnails. Overall, a very good product; but would be more user friendly if it had detailed instructions enclosed.

I hate getting older, but this is awesome!
When I ordered this, I was concerned about the viewing space being too small, if it would sit on my chest in a stable way, if the light would be too bright... Nothing to be concerned about. It is plenty large enough to see what I need to see (specifically English paper piecing for quilting at the moment), and the light is very focused in a small area. I'll have to try it with some of my larger cross stitch pieces, too. Still trying to get the hang of threading a needle under it.One of the things I didn't realize is that there is also a fold-out base and the magnifier bends over, so you can use it to look at small things on a flat surface as well, like stamps, coins, or beading! This was definitely worth the money.

I was doubtful, but now am impressed
It was a little awkward getting it to hang at the correct length for me, but once I got it where I wanted it, I really like it. totally worth the money for cross stitching tiny cross stitch fabric (18 or 20 count)

I heartily recommend this hands-free magnifier.
I've been using this type of hands-free magnifier for a few years, It is invaluable for hand sewing & craft projects. This product does not disappoint. It gives enough magnification to complete projects with precision. The only improvement I would request is easier neck strap adjustment. I am very short & the neck strap, even completely shortened hangs too low to be useful. However, I was able to cut off the excess strap & knot the ends together so that it sits at the best distance from the work. I recommend it.

Good Magnifier for Crafters
Bought this for my elderly mother, who does all kinds of hand crafts from beading to painting. You can hang it around your neck or pull out the little kickstand to stand it up. You do have to put batteries in it for the light to work. The only complaint I have (and it was not enough for me lower the rating) was that getting it open to where the batteries insert is neither intuitive nor easy and the instructions do not tell you how, but I will. There are little silver "thumb paddles" on the handle on one side. Hold the unit with the paddles toward you. Depress the paddles and gently tip out handle casing. That creates the kickstand. Beneath that there is another black casing. Pull back the interior black casing to insert the batteries. The unit is made of pretty good plastic, but I did worry about breaking it the first time I tried to pry open the stand to insert the batteries. Once I knew how, it was easy.

It’s fine. Not awesome.
This is really awkward to get properly situated so that I can use it for knitting. I wanted to be able to knit without a light disturbing others in the room. However, you can’t have good lighting and good magnification at the same time. If I can get it adjusted right, it’s great.

Need more instructions
Instructions for battery compartment are on thee frame. BUT, I could not figure out how to make it stand up, and it is EXTREMELY difficult to open the battery compartment. I finally discovered that the first thing you have to open for the batteries (the very difficult part) is actually the stand! Underneath that is a second door that opens the battery compartment.

SEWING MAGNIFYING GLASS
Excellent product. It just took a heck of a long time to arrive. When I ordered it, it read that it was in stock, but it took almost four weeks.
