Great revival
A splendid return to action by Simon & Garfunkel that makes you wish their recording partnership could have endured much longer.

'MEMORIES OF THE MUSIC 'SIMON AND GARFUNKEL' GAVE THE WORLD'
'Paul Simon' and 'Art Garfunkel' grew up living just a few blocks away from each other in the predominately Jewish neighbourhood'Kew Garden Hills' Queens, New York' they both had a love of music and in their younger days were inspired by the emergenceof stars such as 'Elvis' and 'The Everly's'As friends in their school-days their partnership and future was sealed, their close harmonies had them hailed as the next 'EverlyBrothers'Their earliest recording 'Hey Schoolgirl' got a fair bit of air-play on the radio stations, ironically they did split in the early sixties butteamed up again leading to their breakthrough in the Charts both sides of the Atlantic with 'The Sound of Silence' in 1965 theirChart-Success was to continue over the next five years before their famous falling out in 1970'Paul Simon' was the Songwriter, Guitarist, and Vocals, 'Art Garfunkel' the lead vocalist.Of course many will remember the duo's reunion Concert in Central-Park in front of 500,000 fans in September 1981, the reunion sadlywas brief........many, doubted that this would be it's equal......however, those that have watched it will tell you...yes, a fantastic viewingexperience that brings the memories flooding back.Must admit down the years when feeling the need to relax or even have moments of reflection i often play 'Simon and Garfunkel'This release is from their 'Old Friends' Tour in 2003 which included Boyhood-Heroes 'The Everly Brothers' as guest artists. With pretty much all the best known hits on-board this release is essential viewing for music fans of 'Simon and Garfunkel.Concert Track Listings.01 Opening Montage (American Inst)02 Old Friends03 A Hazy Shade of Winter04 I Am a Rock05 America06 At the Zoo07 Baby Driver08 Kathy's Song(Tom and Jerry Story)09 Hey Schoolgirl(The Everly Brothers Intro)10 Wake Up Little Susie -Everly's11 All I Have To do is Dream - Everly's12 Bye Bye Love (The Everly's with Simon and Garfunkel13 Scarborough Fair14 Homeward Bound15 Sound of SilenceACT TWO -01 Opening Montage02 Mrs Robinson03 Slip Slidin' Away04 El Condor Pasa05 Keep the Customer06 Satisfied07 The Only Living Boy in New York08 American Tune09 Bridge Over Troubled Water10 Cecilia11 The Boxer12 Leaves that are Green13 The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)This release comes with a booklet describing much of the duo's history and of course the background of the 'Old Friends' tour.A show that charged much emotion from it's audiences...........The duo, deservedly right up there with the Music-Legends ofpast and present.

i am giving this a three star only becouse i fell asleep half way through i was drunk at the time so i have not really seen it enough to say its great or not so great. i would say to my mind the central park 80s concert is the best one for sure. you cant go wrong there its a great concert when they were in there prime.

Old indeed!!
I bought this DVD shortly after watching the famous Central Park Concert, and it was quite shocking to see them so old, both of them looking like undead raised from graveyard! But I was immediately touched by their mutual respect, warmth and a sense of serenity only old friends can share. It is also very moving that they reminisce about how some early songs came about, before singing them. Performance-wise, I still think Central Park Concert is better despite the tension between them. At times it is very annoying to see Paul Simon making parody of his own songs like the drunken version of El Condor Pasa or the balletic rendition of The Bridge Over Troubled Water. But that can be forgiven - main thing is that they are enjoying themselves to the full and feeling groovy!

Simon & Garfunkel
I got this DVD some time ago but forgot where I put it for safe keeping.Probably much to do with my age, (60 but don't feel like it....!)Amazon came to my rescue at a really good price. This concert featuring two people who have lived their lives, fallen out, made up etc. etc. over such a long time brings back so many memories from my youth as to be an absolute must in any collection. Some old songs have been given a little upgrade by the duo and some have become more than just acoustic in the performance but that doesn't detract from the overall superb content of this disc. Make it an occasion. Sit down in good company with a decent glass of wine or whatever light refreshment takes your fancy, some nibbles and if you're anything like me you will be welling up before the show's over. Absolutely top entertainment.JMS

Simon & Garfunkel best live concert
In 2004 was the DVD "Old Friends" live on stage released. The little shorter double CD of the concert is also absolutely outstanding. I will recommend the DVD, because so many expressions and glances tell so much about the old friends for 50 years. The concert in Central Park was impressive, but did not have the charm and gentle grace as "Old Friends". Especially Paul Simon has such a present and attention in his performance.Overall they sing together in a way, that I have not heard in their previous records. They have aged as a precious old wine.

What a big ego
Unfortunately this is Paul Simon at his egotistical best. Not only does he strut around the stage with his guitar like he is Jimi Hendrix but he had the audacity to sing a verse of bridge over troubled water only proving to the world the Art Garfunkel is by a million miles the better vocalist . If you want to watch Simon and Garfunkel in concert watch the Central Park concert.
