Great for the beginner!
As a novice orchid-lover, the first book I bought was one of the Ritterhausen introductory books, but while it had more orchid varieties in their book, I found specific information on each species rather scanty.Thank goodness I found this book not long after!I especially found these chapters highly informative with good accompanying pictures:- lighting- temperature (although my copy had american temps, it was easy to have it translated to centigrade)- how to repot the various orchid types- recognizing diseases and pestsThe 'Gallery' is also helpful in helping you select the kind(s) of orchid(s) most likely to thrive in your apartment, since a rough guide to light/ temps/ degree of care needed is indicated. That said, the orchids mentioned in the book consists of a selection of the most common types found in stores meant for indoor growing - so Phalaenopsis, Dendrobium, Catteleya, Vanda, etc, are in there - but some of the more exotic types were omitted (eg, nothing on Zygopelatums), as were terrestrial orchids.Orchid newbies, if you have to pick one book, look no further! :)
