Good basic outstanding instruction with outstanding tips in framing.
This is for the most part a good framing book with many tips for the do it yourself guy or gal. It may be a little slow or dull for someone already skilled in framing but who knows you might learn something also. It is outstanding in giving the basics for first time learners or beginners in learning how to frame in floors, walls and roofs. There are a lot of framing tips and good instruction on how to frame in this book, I enjoyed it and I was able to use some of the author's ideas and tips while framing in a floor and wall last month so it was worth the money for me to buy this book for it saved me some time and stress on a remodel project. I would recommend this book to others.

Great Book
This is a very informative book that gets right down to the technical details. It has lots of illustrations, but plenty of descriptive and math-oriented information/techniques as well. It's a bit much if you are building a doghouse, I suppose. But if you are seriously looking to build a house as an owner/contractor, this will help get you going.I'm not sure why this book is out of print... perhaps the building industry didn't want you to work on your own home and rather, pay a contractor big bucks for doing things you could have done yourself if you are good with your hands and good at visualizing and understanding building geometry... and have a book like this.

Devil in the details
There is a lot of useful information this book; however, when you take stock of the complexities of a real world remodeling project and how to proceed this book falls short. It would work fine if all your rooms and spaces where perfect squares and rectangles but in most cases you are facing a series of issues with ductwork, old plumping, meters, niches, and angles. This book gives you very limited guidance on how to handle trouble spots. For example, they suggest framing around duct work but only show you an elemental example of a single, straight main return. In reality, duct work is often very complex and convoluted but you get no advice on how to handle those situations. In another case, what do you do if you can't build the wall on the floor due to clearance issues in raising the wall? There's also little to nothing in advice about anticipating plumbing and electrical needs as you design your walls. There's a lot of space given to framing roofs, which I'm guessing few DIYs would be doing but very little about framing issues in remodeling basements and attics. In other words the priorities should be better matched to the real needs of do it your-selfers. On the plus side the illustrations are well done and the writing is easy to follow but I wish they had taken some real world examples and spent more time discussing the types of problems you will likely face if you decide to tackle remodeling existing space.

Good how to text book for Framing
"Ultimate Guide to House Framing, 3rd edition" is a well written reference manual for how to frame a house or garage.Well written - If you plan to do any building a must own. What I liked:-1/3 of the entire book is diagrams showing "how" to.-book covers many different types of framing, and shows several different techniques.-It points out where you should consult your local building codes to see if certain items apply ( i.e. do you need hurricane straps)-well organized into logical chapters.-A high emphasis is placed on safety and the proper use of power tools.-The author take the time to explain the basics and tell you how to do thing properly. What I didn't like.- nothing.
