Absolute Best Starter Compressor—Perfect Power, Portability, and Value
I bought the PORTER-CABLE C2002-WK to handle everything from trim nailing and minor framing projects to topping off car tires and blowing dust out of workshop equipment. After using it extensively for several months, I can confidently say this is the best homeowner/DIY compressor on the market, period. It’s reliable, powerful for its size, and the value you get with the accessory kit is unbeatable.

Great for home use
I can't speak to professionals but for myself, a homeowner with less demanding needs, this compressor is well suited. I needed something to top-off auto/bicycle tires and handle occasional trim nailing. Dusting off the work bench and other hard to clean items came to mind too (PC cases, keyboards, car interior, wood blinds, filters, etc.). Works great for all, although you're better off purchasing a higher quality hose and accessories. I bought the Hitachi 1/4" 100' hose so I can get most anywhere in the house from the garage (although it's small and light enough to move it around if you're sticking with the included 25' hose). As far as noise, it's not that bad at all. Louder than a vacuum, but quieter than a lawn mower. It's a low droning noise, unlike the high-pitched whine I got from my portable tire inflator (which was much louder than this compressor). Takes a bit under 3 minutes to fill completely from empty, then under a minute to refill once it drops below 120psi.Never owning a compressor before I didn't realize you need to empty it after each use. No big deal - I just use the remaining air to dust the car dash - it's great for cleaning out all those cracks and crevices (just don't blast any speaker cones).Note I was planning on getting the DeWalt D55140 since it's smaller, lighter and very quiet. I know someone who has one so I was able to try it. Seems slightly better built too. If you just plan on doing trim nailing and tire filling I recommend it over this one. However for dusting the 1 gal capacity is limiting - you get about 30sec of 40psi air - the compressor kicks in but just can't keep up (you just have to stop and wait for it to refill). With the Porter-Cable I can get continuous 40-50psi with the compressor running. If this is not a need, the DeWalt may be a better choice.

Works well; is a bit noisy. ODOR WARNING: store in a sealed room!
I've owned this for about 18 weeks. Light usage, mainly inflating tires.I didn't use it the first couple weeks I had it, but I did open the box to verify that all parts were present and that there were no visible issues.I recall a fairly strong odor when I unpacked it. I attributed this to the materials used in manufacturing (air compressor equivalent of 'that new car smell'?) Since it was winter, I kept it in my house and figured the smell would fade pretty quickly. After about a week or so, I came home and was struck by a strong smell that seemed to come from everywhere. My first thought was literally that a mouse had died somewhere I couldn't see. But the smell wasn't the same as a rotting rodent (I used to live in a rural area, so I know.)After some sniffing around, I found the source. This compressor. So I cleared a closet in the basement where it could be isolated. A few days later, I couldn't notice the odor when I was anywhere else in the house. After the break-in and a few uses of the compressor, I figured it was safe to keep it back into the 'gen pop' of my basement. Then I could work on getting the stink out of the closet.Bad idea. The weirdest thing is that I don't notice a smell when I use it. But stored indoors for a couple days, my whole house stinks. And I mean the whole house.I visited a friend one weekend, bringing a fabric-type cooler on wheels with me. The second day I was there, my friend asked me what the heck the smell was in a room I had some of my things in.The source wasn't obvious, but I recognized the scent. I put 2 & 2 together and realized that the cooler had been stored just a few feet from the compressor in my basement.I figured the cooler had to have absorbed the smell and slowly released it into the closed room at my friends house. It is just so weird that it didn't seem like the cooler smelled in any way. We both sniffed around and couldn't say the cooler smelled like a source. It's like an undetectable level of stink slowly emanates from the compressor, which eventually becomes overpowering. It reeks.I became concerned that I was becoming desensitized and that maybe my clothes were absorbing the smell, but no one at work had been nice enough to tell me that I now stank. So for now, the compressor owns a closet in my basement. I hope that will not have to always be the case.I'm surprised (and a bit worried) that I haven't seen this mentioned in any other reviews. But I haven't read them all.

Great value and performance.
I love this air compressor. I upgraded from a very small Craftsman 1.5 Gallon oil-free air compressor that I used for trim carpentry, and recently started using for car detailing to blow-out water hiding in cracks and crevices. The smaller compressor's capacity was too small, and the motor would run constantly, deafening me in the process. In addition, the curly-Q style air hose was a pain in the butt and would get tangled. This Porter Cable 6-Gallon air compressor is much nicer and allows me to work longer without hearing the motor constantly running. The included air hose is straight, not curly, and is very supple, easy to work with, and doesn't tangle. The include air gun adapter is also very nice and doesn't leak or un-thread itself like my last one. The size is just right and its not too heavy to move around when you need to.As for the noise. Why do people even ask about this? ALL air compressors are loud!! Especially if you're working in a room or on flat surfaces where the sound is amplified. If you're outside and standing 4' away from this, its bearable. Any other scenario, I'd highly recommend hearing protection. Check out ClearArmor 141001 Shooter's hearing protection headset as it does an amazing job.

One of the best household tools I've gotten!
Who would think that having a compressor would make such a big difference in a person's life, but it has. I've used this little compressor to clean my computer, clean smoke alarms (they go mad when dust or a little bug gets stuck in them) and the obvious maintain car's tire pressure. For me being able to put air in my tires at home makes this compressor worth having. The hassle of using a commercial compressor with their timers and wonky hoses is enough to make you go mad, especially when you're in a dress and heals! I once spent several dollars just to fill two tires. If you're fortunate to find a free compressor, there is usually something wrong with it and it comes with a line of waiting vehicles with impatient drivers. The first time I put air in my tires at home, I felt such relief. As a previous reviewer noted the hose is on the cheap side, but for household stuff it works just fine. There is a fine assortment of nozzles too. The compressor is easy to maintain, instructions and warnings are clearly written. I purchased this compressor almost a year ago and waited until now to write a review. Wanted to see if something bad about it would come up with use, it hasn't. My Porter-Cable compressor is one of my favourite tools!

We Have a Winner
After years of struggleing with those cheapo compressors that plug into your cigarette lighter, and are underpowered, I decided to break down and purchase a quality air compressor. Basically, I wanted something in the garage to keep the tires properly inflated, and something I could do some light carpentry work with (like run a brad nailer). After doing quiet a bit of research, it appeared that the Porter Cable C2002 was a good match for my needs.I have received the unit, and can say that it has exceeded my expectations in all areas. The unit is well built, and performs like a champ. To summarize my findings:What I love about this unit:1) Easy to carry. This unit, while not light, is easy to pick up and move around with one hand. The handle is right on top, right above the center of gravity, so it is easy to lift and move without getting off balance.2) Well Built. This unit just has that "feel" of quality construction. Everything has that heavy duty feel to it.3) Relatively quiet. While you definitely know when it turns on, it is quieter than other compressors I have worked around. You can comfortably work around it when it is on.4) Charges up quickly. When you turn it on, the tank is full of air in a minute or so.5) Well designed. It is intuitive to use, and everything is in just the right spot.6) Nice set of accessories. It comes with a nice long hose, and lots of useful accessories. It has the tire inflation connector, a tire gauge, and the connectors you would need to inflate just about anything. Also has one of those units you press the button to blow air, like for dusting things off.7) Hose is nice and long. I have the unit over on the side of my garage, and the hose is long enough to easily reach all four tires on the car. The hose is a nice quality hose.8) Looks cool. This is really an elegant design, and sits in the corner of your garage, looking good, and not taking up too much space.9) Pressure gauges are in just the right spot, and are easy to read.10) Just works. Sounds funny, but in using it, it just works. No trouble and no problem. What I did not like:1) Instructions were useless. Small print on folded up piece of paper with every warning you could possibly imagine about all the ways you can be killed using the unit. I actually am very safety conscience, but when they go overboard like this, they just increase the chances that you are not going to read any of it. I pretty much gave up on getting anything useful out of the instructions.2) This is not so much a dislike, but more of just a warning. If you pull the little ring to empty the air tank, it is LOUD. I am sure you are warned about this in the instructions, but just be advised to not have your ear pointed towards it if you open that valve.3) Electrical cord is too short. I did not measure it, but it is way to short. If you do not park the unit right by an outlet, you are going to need an extension cord.Bottom line is that I LOVE this compressor and regret delaying so long in getting it. Over the years, I spent much more than this on those junk ones. I am delighted to finally have a quality one, and am looking forward to years of service with it.

Lightweight, portable, and compact for tight spaces (condo/apartment garages, etc...) just buy a better air chuck
This is an awesome portable air compressor! It weighs next to nothing so I can stash it in a corner of my condo garage and bring it out to fill the tires on my cars with the greatest of ease. I've got a 5.5 hp / 25 gallon Craftsman compressor at my dad's garage which is huge and unwieldy. This compressor allows me to move it around more easily. This 6 gallon compressor kit is only a few dollars more than the bare compressor, and the kit does come with some useful accessories like the quick connect couplings for attachments and a blow gun. The included air chuck is garbage though, it won't push down most valve stems properly. I opted to buy an aftermarket air chuck which works much better. The PVC hose is 1/4" but lightweight and good enough for most light-duty activities. The noise level is fairly high (like an engine running) and the capacity could be larger because after filling a few times, I'll lose enough psi to require me to turn the compressor back on to refill.Overall: 5/5 stars, the included air chuck is garbage but everything else is good enough for light to medium duty use.

Porter-Cable Compressor
My experience has been excellent with this compressor. I did go on-line to get the instructions on how to do the "break-in" before using the compressor. I thought it should have been in the manual, but it's not. Reading other reviews of this product, they did recommend the break-in be performed. (The break-in is opening up all the valves, and let it run for 10 minutes before putting it under load or use.) I do not use it a lot, so I cannot comment as to its long term viability, but its been great for my use. Compressors are noisy by nature, and this one is consistent with most, so it's not a complaint that I have. The accessory kit that came with it is fine and works well. Overall, for the price, this compressor is a great deal; it fits in my garage well and does not take up much room at all. I would recommend this to a friend.

Buen compresor

Portable Compressor
The value was exceptional! The exact unit was twice the price at Home Depot and without the accessory kit! Great little compressor and great price! I am a little late in writing my review, but that being said I am a contractor and I have been using it for 2 years now and it still works like new. It doesn’t look like new, but it is very reliable!
