Works fine with Window 8/8.1
So, far I have used this to connect to PLC's such as automation direct D05/06, and serial port connection to various Embedded system serial ports ( such as old HC12 systems, Arduino serial port to PC connection, RPi, etc. ) IT seems to work very well without problems. So far a very consistent product. Recommended.I installed the drivers to Windows 8 and 8.1 OS and so far it works without any issues. I had to get this device because old USB to serial converter I had been using were not compatible with the new Windows 8. The Prolific USB-to-Serial adapter which worked fine in Windows 7 (Vista as well) is not supported under Windows 8/8.1. The older chip-set used in these old adapter will not be supported in the newer OS. Well it is time to move on to new hardware, and this adapter for a few dollar more has two serial ports.

Failed out of the box, not the same as one I ordered a couple years ago
I'd bought the same one a couple years ago. Loved it, worked great. My first clue something was different was that the two serial port connectors weren't labeled. Then when it didn't work at all I figured when they cheaped out on the overmold they cut corners somewhere else too.

Pretty good USB dual-port serial adapter
This is working just fine for me. I needed it to control an amateur radio with a serial interface to a Windows 7 PC. The drivers installed automatically and the CD was not needed. My only gripe with it is the driver configuration page is a little strangely laid-out, and some of the settings are kind of smashed together, making it somewhat unclear what are the basic, standard serial port settings to establish connectivity, and which are advanced settings to dial in the performance for a particular application. Other than that, the device is working just fine. I believe it is somewhat susceptible to 2 meter and 70 centimeter RF, so if you're using it for radio, point the yagi away from this adapter.... :-)

Works on Windows 8 Pro & with VMware Workstation 9
This device works exactly as I was hoping. It connects to a single USB port, and each DB9 plug is registered to the host device as a separate COM device. This makes it work perfectly with my legacy applications. I can configure the applications to use the two COM ports, and it has not failed me yet.I needed a device that would not only work on Windows 8, but also that would easily pass-through VMware Workstation 9 to a Windows XP VM with little configuration needed, and this cable met my requirements exactly. It is as though it was designed specifically for me.

Warning for Windows 10 users
I bought this connector back in Nov 2015 for a Dell XPS 15 running Windows 8.1 knowing that I would upgrade soon to Windows 10. The description said it was supported under Windows 10. It worked great under 8.1, no additional drivers needed. The serial ports get assigned to com1 and com2 on my machine. The only drawback was that it would only work in a USB 2.0 port not any of the USB 3 ports, but I was ok with that. After I recently upgraded to Windows 10, only one of the serial ports will work. Looking in device manager, it looks like they both get assigned to com1 but only the the S1 connector works. In device manager I cannot change the S2 com port to something else.I am trying to reach out to Micro Connectors Inc customer support to see if I need new drivers but I cannot find a way in Amazon to contact them. Hopefully this review will catch their attention and I can resolve the issue and raise my star rating for this device.

Great two-port serial USB interface
Works well with Windows, Linux, and VMware allowing you to model physical hardware connections across VMs, sniff communications, or drive two RS-232/9p devices with one USB port. Slightly different cable lengths allow for a better fit and there's enough length to use a null modem to join them. Great for field device support or modelling communications in the lab. It's worked well for everything I've tried.

Fine from hardware standpoint but does not transmit break signal
From a hardware standpoint this connector is fine, but when in use a break signal is not transmitted properly to the Cisco gear as far as I can tell.
