totally my fault for not reading the description more carefully but i must have stopped at the "pretend make up" part lolthis is a cute kit - a little over priced for what it is but i'm a hot mess, last minute, full -time working mom so i ordered christmas gifts the week before christmas. it arrived on my doorstep two days later as promised, well wrapped and complete.the gloss, lipstick and shadows are indeed, real make up. we aren't ready for our children to wear real make up so i confiscated it and fortunately i had ordered a different kit for our other daughter so they are sharing that one. i might let them use this one for a special spa/make up night now and then but not for every day play in their rooms. it is cute and complete with make up brushes. the make up they did get on the couch did wash off but some did stain our high pile rug a little.

My grand-girls have enjoyed these so much that I have ordered another set 4 years later for the next batch of kids coming along. They have not stained or caused any messes in my house.

I bought this for my daughter's 4th birthday. It has brought her hours of enjoyment and me hours of aggravation. Overall I am very happy with this kit, but I would recommend removing 2 of the products if a younger child is playing with it. The brown eyebrow pencil and the 3-pack of "lip gloss". The pencil is more like a permanent pencil. It is not easily removed even with soap and water. After scrubbing faces several times, I finally removed it from the kit. Problem solved. Then I discovered the 2nd problem. The 3-pack lip gloss is more like wax and impossible to get off surfaces. My make-up table will probably never be the same because I have not been able to remove it. The joy this has brought my daughter is worth the lessons I learned and once those 2 products were removed, it has become much more enjoyable for me, as well. I can allow her to play with it without hovering over her and worrying about the damage I'll find when she's finished. The nail polish and eye shadows come off super easily. I would purchase this product again but would remove those 2 products for younger ones.

I bought two other kids starter make up kits and I didn't like most of the colors they used for the kit but I did like these pinks and purples. These girls are using these kits to learn how to apply and wear the makeup, use better make up colors like the pink and purple kits along with a earthy tone kit. You would sell the heck out of these!
