Review: The best cookbook I have ever read. - I am not an Elder scrolls fan. I do not play video games. So my review reflects only the quality of the food, not the level of accuracy to game lore. I will say though that my son is a huge fan of the game, and he is quite happy with book. He commented that map is not as he remembers it, but it may be from a different edition of the game. He enjoys the book, and it is beautifully illustrated, but I can not comment myself on accuracy. I purchased this as means to get a teenager to try different foods. And it absolutely worked. My son says this is the best food he has ever eaten. I have to agree. The food is very simple to make, though their are few niche ingredients which can be difficult to come by in the UK. It does not require large amounts of preparation time. And the food is absolutely wonderful. I think my sons favourite is the sweetrolls, though we did find this just a bit bland. We quickly altered this to two versions, the dark elf version being made with with an almond filling similiar to that of bear claws, and becoming more of a dark brown, and the high elf version with a drop of lemon or orange. The main recipe is quite neutral so can be easily altered to suit individual tastes. We also used more cinnamon than the recipe suggests. The overall favourite for the family is braised rib stew with faro ( barley ). Beef ribs are extremely difficult to source here, so we had to use diced up beef joint and extra bone broth, but is now one of out very favourite foods,a dn my husband loves it as well. I would caution though that is exceptionally filling. We had this with the lavender honey bread which was also wonderful. Again we made one slight adjustment, we left the lavender out, but the resulting loaf was absolutely perfect. This is a very soft airy bread , ideal for sandwiches as well as with a meal. We tried a number of other recipes and in many cases had to make some tiny adjustment , whether due to inability to find an ingredient or just down to personal taste but these recipes can be easily adjusted when needed. Every single thing we have made has turned out delicious. It is worth noting that the measurements are American. Trust me, once you get used to this, it is much easier than British measurements . You simply scoop, level and dump instead of carefully weighing out ingredients. But you do need a set of American measuring cups, or one with cup with graduated markings, and I would highly recommend measuring spoons as well. This is also a very easy way to teach younger children fractions. We were so delighted with this book we immediately bought two more by the same author, and we are looking forward to our first Horker loaf this weekend. Very highly recommended. Review: Good choice of recipes - An excellent cookbook and if you are a gamer and into the Elder Scrolls it’s extremely relevant. Very impressive, good fun and a great purchase. Thank you

Discover new joys of cooking
This was the first book in the series that I picked up and is probably the most inspirational of the lot. Seeing as the Elder Scrolls series of games has its own menu of dishes, it was exciting to see how the author has adapted some of the better known fantastical recipes to the real world. The selected dishes are well themed to fit what might be a "Viking" dinner table, and many are quite easily modifiable if you are missing out an ingredient or don't want to use something (I am intolerant to shellfish, but easily took out the scallops in some dishes and don't feel like I lost anything). If anything this book taught me several things: 1. The joy of grinding your own spices, as many dishes call for the same mixtures and recommend that you prepare them in advance. This way I discovered what fresh herbs and spices really smell and taste like beyond just shaking a glass jar over something. So you really get a feeling for what you are adding to the dish. 2. Infusing alcohol: the later part of the book has you making your own mead or liqueur (Skooma!) so as mentioned above you will be using your spices to infusing them. Something you'll get a feel for by actually knowing what they taste like and seeing in stages what they add to the overall product. 3. Baking. I was useless at baking prior to this book, because it is more of a science than an art, requiring exact measurements or things go very wrong. A significant portion of this book is given over to bread, cakes, and tarts, so baking is essential. But because it is themed along something it was a joy to learn and make something special. Beyond all this, the recipes also get you to introduce ingredients that you may commonly ignore in the kitchen, such as leeks or cabbage, which are now staples of my home diet in ways they never were before; and my cupboards are now filled with spices that I know how to use in everyday cooking. My main gripe with the book is that the main course section is actually rather short, with much of the pages set aside for the aforementioned sections on baking, spices and alcohol. But seeing as nearly every dish has a strong theme, I can forgive the author for not simply "padding" the menu with common dishes and giving them fantastical names in an attempt to fill space. While it may not be a cook book that you return to for every meal, you know that each time you use it you will likely be making something that really stands out.

It’s very well designed with nice quality paper. We tried 1 recipe from the book and it was tasty (shrimps). My only problem and it’s a serious one is that the book is falling apart and I barely used it. I own it for less than a month.

The Elder Scrolls cookbook brings the cuisine of Tamriel to life. The book is full of game references and information about the various races and their foods so if you love Elder Scrolls youll love the book just for the content itself! The recipes are creative and vary in difficulty level and the book is full of recipe photos (i firmly believe cookbooks should have a photo for each dish!) My only issue with the recipes is i find there is a reliance on two types of meats; fish and pork. A mix of different meat items would make it more realistic and consumable for all people with different tastebuds, the book also needs more vegetarian options aside from basic starters! Aside from the minor lack of diversity of the meat used in the dishes i highly recommend!

This may be a game tie-in cook book, but it is full of real recipes that taste great. Chelsea Monroe-Cassel has done a wonderful job adding Elder Scroll's flair to recipes like Costal Clam Chowder, Leek and Cheese Crostata, and Companions Meatball Bake. Each recipe has a little introductory paragraph or two that ties it into the game world. For example, the recipe for Chicken Dumplings talks about how it is a a favourite at inns across Skyrim. Below this introduction is a level rating, which tells you how difficult the recipe is to make. (The vast majority of the recipes aren't too difficult at all. A few, especially those with pastry, could be tricky for novice chefs.) And, below that, are the stats re. cooking time, servings, and what the recipe pairs well with. The ingredients list and directions are clearly written, and each recipe is beautifully photographed. There is no nutrition information though, which is the only fault I can find with this book. The book begins with an introduction to Tamriel and the races that live there as well as some of their celebrations. The next section covers spices mixes that are used throughout the book, along with dough recipes, etc. The Sides, Starters, & Snacks section has some great recipes including Hot Mudcrab Dip. This is followed by Baked Goods; Soups & Stews; Main Courses; Desserts; and finally a section on Drinks. There is a short appendix dealing with dietary considerations, which lists which recipes are suitable for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free eaters without any alterations. Overall, this is not only a lovey book to read and look at, it is also a very good cook book full of tasty recipes.
