I then discovered a YouTube video with a playthrough of the original 1998 arcade game. Spikeout may not be as good as Sega's better-known brawler series such as Dynamite Deka or Streets of Rage, but for brawling fans like me it's still a worthy romp.Spikeout: Battle Street is the sequel to the 1998 arcade that takes place 10 years later, with 15-year old Spike Jr- the son of the original main protagonist returning to defend his hometown against NeoInferno. You have the options of playing through the story mode or arcade. Playing through storymode will unlock a few new stages and characters along with showing the soap opera-style plot unfold. There are no continues, however, and I am ashamed to say that it took me several tries on easy mode to finally beat it. The arcade mode offers the story-free version with continues.The controls are fine; you can either use the thumbstick or d-pad, and there are different control schemes. There is no option to customize.
