Designed for extreme conditions, the Frostline Hat is built for ultimate winter weather protection. Water-resistant, ultralight 30D Pertex Endurance fabric keeps out the elements, while Posh Pile fleece provides warm, wicking insulation. A zip-out face mask and fleece-lined earflaps provide adjustable protection from biting wind and snow, and the foam brim snaps up for greater visibility when you’re eyeballing the route ahead.

Warm and comfy
Obviously I got this for outdoor activities in for colder weather (i.e. winter in Maine) Always had one of those fur lined trapper hats. Was looking for something a little more streamlined that wouldn't look too weird wearing in public. LOLOrdered this hat and love it. I will say that when It first arrived I was a little put off by how thin and flimsy it felt compared to what I was use to wearing. I had serious doubts that it would be warm enough. Well, after wearing it a few times I fell in love with it. Light as a feather, blocks wind like a brick wall, and even sheds water as well as any rain hat I own. I generally wear a little beanie under it which I do with any other winter hat as well. The beanie is simply a little skull cap, actually its sold as a helmet liner. Thin, but adds a lot of warmth to any hat. I haven't tried using the stow away face mask as of yet. But If I'm stuck out in some really cold wind then I'm sure it will be handy to have.Just to clarify how much I love this hat, I recently gave my trapper hat away. Don't need it any longer.LOL

Doogie Dirkelbopper
I look like Dilbert Dingleberry when I wear it vs. sub zero from mortal kombat like I thought I would…but I still like it-it’s warm and useful. I would not approach a romantic candidate wearing this!

Very Very Warm!
I bought this hat for an ice climbing trip in colorado (Feburary). It was awesome! In fact, it was so warm that I usually didn't wear it during the day when temps were in the 20's to lower 30's. I put it on sometimes when it got really windy and I was standing still between climbs or when belaying with the ear flaps rolled up. It was way too warm to wear in those conditions while very active. At night when the temps dropped to the teens or single digits this hat kept my head & ears toasty. I never used the face shield (which stows away nicely) but it's nice to know that it was there. I have a plan to climb Mt. Washington this winter & I plan to take this hat as it seems to me that it will likely perform very well there. As a side note, you can adjust your helmet to fit over this but the brim makes it a bit akward. If you're looking for something to wear under a helmet OR has other options that would probably work better like their alpine hat or wintertrek hat (which I also own and love).

Excellent piece of gear - one of a kind
I eyeballed this hat at a store then found it online at a little better, no a lot better price so I went with the better price. The first time I saw this hat and tried it on I wanted it. It's incredible although I've yet to wear it outside yet. I don't know where to start with how much I like this hat. It's super warm insulating material is very cozy - but not bulky or heavy. The shell is made of Pertex Quantum which is one of the best fabrics out there. It's very light and has an awesome hand. I really like the insulated ear flaps that can be flipped out of the way. The lined flip down brim and the pull out facemask are incredible. They took a classic hat style to new heights and made it light and compact for winter backpackers like myself. I think it's outstanding! www.letsgohikeit.com

Love this hat!
I've worn this hat on at least 50 climbs in the Northern Sierras and love it! I had to order another one as my first blew off my head in 70 mph winds at the summit of Pyramid Peak ( my fault for not using the chin strap). It's warm without being too hot and totally blocks the wind, and the hidden face mask is a great feature when the cold wind really blows. The Velcro on the chin straps holds the hat in place well and this cap doesn't seem to muffle my hearing like some beanies do. I find the fit to be true and it can be pulled down to feel really snug. I never head up the the mountains in the winter without this hat as it is light and easily packable. You won't be disappointed 😀

expensive and not very good; probably would be warm, but I don't think I'll ever know
It looked really nerdy; bad enough that my wife- who is not a fashion freak - forbade me to wear it. When I Iooked in the mirror, I had to agree. It's pretty bad. The ear flaps seemed okay, so I'm not sure what the other reviewers were complaining about in that department. And at $52, it ought to look great, feel great, and keep you warm. It failed on the first. It's on its way back as a return.

My wife's favorite hat
My wife spends quite alot of time outdoors walking our dogs, and although we live in the relatively mild climate of northern california, she grew up in southeast asia, and has tricky sinuses. This hat is cozy and warm, but tucks easily into a coat pocket. This is nice because it lets my wife swap between this hat and a visor, on a typical spring/fall day when the temperature will vary by more than ten degrees over the course of a dog walk. The real selling point is the over-the-face (face mask) stowable component. I like to wear a wool scarf to bring up over my chin when necessary when it's really cold or windy - my wife does not. She (and her nose) love this feature, and use it often in winter, through spring. It's a lightweight, breathable mesh, but reduces the effect of the windchill substantially.
