Growing up in that era, being a big Sex Pistols fan, I eagerly dug PiL back in the day, even if I've mostly moved on now that I'm old(er). That said, this collection features the songs that can help people understand what the fuss was about with PiL back in the day. They're that killer blend of dark, techno, danceable, and incendiary. Postpunk pop (although Lydon would likely hate that labeling, the way he hates pretty much everything), but in the best way -- catchy, but with a killer edge to each tune. The music world has changed (some would say devolved) to the point where a band like PiL these days wouldn't be able to catch on widely (the XX are an example of this, in my view), certainly not the way PiL did. As a sampler of a once-great band passed up by time and space, this one captures the PiL magic that tracked so well in that postpunk era.
