Product Description Richard Dean Anderson stars as MacGyver, an agent for the Phoenix Foundation, a progressive agency devoted to righting the wrongs of the world. Even more progressive is the near-genius MacGyver who never carries a gun and always thwarts the enemy with his vast scientific knowledge, sometimes with little more than a paper clip and the duct tape in his pocket. .com Desperate times call for desperate measures--and the desperate will stop at nothing to get MacGyver's attention. In the fifth season premiere ("Legend of the Holy Rose"), an old friend releases his houseboat from its moorings--while he's in it. Four episodes later ("Halloween Knights"), an old enemy relieves his boat of its belongings. It works, of course. Mac lives to help people in need, even if those people include obnoxious archeology professor Zoë (Lise Cutter), who enlists his aid in tracking down an ancient artifact, and the mysterious Murdoc (Michael Des Barres), who does the same to rescue his kidnapped sister. Joining forces with arch-enemy Murdoc marks a break with previous seasons. Otherwise, the fifth features the same resourceful secret agent as the first four (though hes relying on those inventive "MacGyverisms" less often as the series continues). MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) still travels the world on behalf of the Phoenix Foundation, while reporting to supportive superior Pete Thornton (Dana Elcar). As before, he goes it alone: no gun, no back-up, no wisecracking sidekick--not counting reckless rogue Jack Dalton (Bruce McGill), who drops by on occasion to shake up MacGyver's well-ordered world. Aside from a greater interest in socially conscious causes, like the protection of endangered species, the 1989-1990 season also breaks with the past by an episode set in the Old West ("Serenity") and another set in the afterlife ("Passages"). In the former, Jack and Penny (Teri Hatcher in her final appearance) return as prototypes for their present day characters. Murdoc returns, as well--this time wearing a black hat. In the latter, Grandpa Harry (John Anderson) bids adieu. Other fifth year guests include Blossoms Mayim Bialik ("Cease Fire," "Hearts of Steel"), The Exorcists Linda Blair ("Jenny's Chance"), and Jerry Maguires Cuba Gooding Jr. ("Black Rhino," "Serenity"). --Kathleen C. RDA:MacGyver
I loved this show in my teens. Richard Dean Anderson is a far better actor than any big screen actor.

Duct Tape King
I have been an admirer of MacGyver since the first show. A good science student or chemistry student would know how to do all the things that MacGyver does, which is very intriguing. I like MacGyver mostly because he is everything I am not as far as the talents he possesses. I would recommend MacGyver to any adventurous person, science or chemistry-talented person. Watching MacGyver also prompted me to purchase two different swiss army knives, one with an altimeter and compass and flashlight.

I love the MacGyver DVDs, but if I had to do it over, I'd purchase one season at a time.
I love having MacGyver on DVD, but there were two episodes that didn't play on my DVD player. Rather than return the entire set, I purchased Season 5 separately. The other issue I have is how easily the DVDs come off the spools. Since I have Season 5 in a separate box, and find it easier to handle. I recommend purchasing the set one season at a time, not only because the DVDs stay in place better, but also because it's easier to return one season at a time, than to return an entire set. Season 5 had two episodes that wouldn't play. Rather than return the entire set, I just ordered Season 5 by itself. I wish I had ordered the entire set a season at a time.

Entertaining, clean, and somewhat educational.
I grew up watching this show. Although i had no TV my grandparents had no issue sharing. This show is a great for today as much as then. Good entertainment for kids as well as adults which is hard to find. Minimal violance and looking for a non leathal way out are Macgyvers goals in all the predicaments he finds himself in. I greatly enjoy how he demonstraits that there is always a solution to the problem if your willing to take a moment and figure it out.Although some of the solutions are a little convienient, it is still a great way for kids to learn good qualities.Highly recomended clean entertainment.

MacGyver: For Adventure and More...
I've always enjoyed watching MacGyver, the TV series, from Season 1 up to Season 5. I find each episode either adventurous, heart-warming, dealing with human nature or issues with our country or other countries that really do make us think. It's just a very good program all the way around. I find it useful as a teaching tool for it shows MacGyver as a person who did go to college and took his skills and utilized them whenever he was in a jam to get himself out or when he was with others. He always tried to help others, it just was his nature in this program.
