Bristan J BASSW C Java Basin Mixer with Side Action Pop-Up Waste

I've been installing bathrooms for over 20 years and back then, there was only one company that stood head and shoulders above the rest: Bristan. Located bang in the middle of the black country (Staffordshire to you), still making brassware the old-fashioned way. Back then, Java was one of the most popular ranges if you don't mind paying for it and wanted the best. Now comes with 10 year warranty.

We needed to replace our existing Bristan Java mixer tap with levered waste (15yrs old, still very good condition but the keep on underside of basin had rusted off), so happily ordered a replacement of same model. New one looked lovely, plumber got it all ready to fit but it wouldn't pass through the hole in the basin so it was useless. Return and refund.

The product details on Amazon clearly state: "Inlet connections: M10 x 300mm flexible tails (supplied)." But they aren't. It came with copper pipes. It'll be going back to Amazon as "not as described". Otherwise, it's a really nice-looking tap.

I think this is reject stock? It looked OK in the box but when fitted was leaning sideways quite badly. I had to fit and run otherwise my very small daywork profit would have been transformed into large £ loss. Do not buy this unless you can afford to fit it and if leaning, be prepared to then remove it, return it and re-fit/ repeat. Would be OK if you don't care.

New plinth ok but the threaded rod to hold tap on to basin was too small ( Female threaded bush in tap was 7mm rod was 4mm)10] Bristan sent a replacement which I paid £7.60 for11] Replacement was about 4.5 mm female bush on tap is 7mm12] Wrote to Bristan13] Bristan said all theu could do was sell me a new model at £140 as they did not have any 7mm threaded rods.
