Inspirational
Very touching novel. Very real issues experienced by migrants...spoke to issues experienced by women ,rural towns and their struggles, highlighted the economic n political issues experienced in many rural areas. Most importantly it speaks to one person's determination to improve these issues and to fight for the love of his live. Lots of live lessons were learnt, never run away from your problems somehow one day you will have to face them.People dislike and discourage what they don't understand once you believe in your heart don't let people dissuade you.....Finally there are still some good people with big hearts out there...Not sure if this was a true story but great technique Chetan

Boy meets girl, and so forth
What do you say about a twenty-five-year-old girl who dies? If you’re Madhav Jha, a boy from Bihar with a title and nothing more, you seek help from the noted author Chetan Bhagat, with whom you leave a packet of journals left behind by the beautiful Riya Somani from Delhi, whom you have loved but have never quite possessed. (Hence “half girlfriend,” right?) As it turns out, things are looking up for Madhav even without her; Bill Gates has come to visit, and the Gates Foundation arranges a grant for the Bihari town’s crumbling school. But he continues to mourn, until Bhagat clues him in: Riya is alive. Somewhere. And so Madhav resolves to find her, one way or another. It’s a cheery story, if perhaps too obviously intended as a Bollywood feature film; the side bits, the intersections of Indian and British (and later American) customs, are at least as interesting as the story itself.

Good read
Nice plot. Keep you glued to the book. Nice pace and use of simple language makes it easy when you are not in a mood to put extra effort to understand.

Very filmy! Mr. Bhagat is more involved with bollywood script-writing these days and it clearly shows in his writing. The simplicity of language is still there; but the simplicity of plot (which was highlight of his writing) is now replaced by one that has more twists and turns than Lombard st. in San Francisco.... :-) Still enjoyable in parts though!

Different, cute and entertaining
This book was suggested by amazon when it was available on kindle for free. I said: why not? I was having a difficult time and was desperate for something unusual to take my mind away from trouble. I've never heard of Chetan before, was never encouraged to read an India-based love story and I'm not really into basketball either, so for me to pick it up was plain luck.I found the story endearing and hopeful, being the main lesson to never give up. On anything. If you can dream, you certainly can do.

A restoration of faith
I absolutely love this novel. I actually read this in a 1 and a half days. I really loved how it displayed the loyalty of the main character to his homeland and making the lives of the children better and that of his heart. It really teaches you the value of being a friend first and not rushing. This came to me at a time when I am dealing with a personal issue and it is helped me a great deal.

Not a worth read !
The story is weak, very predictable. The writing style is just average. No highs and lows in the book, it just stays flat throughout. I know this story is soon going to be a motion picture, but with the way Bollywood is churning out amazing and realistic stories these past few years, this kind of a story in a motion picture would probably end up being the last ones !

Loved the book
I loved the movie adaptation and the book was even better! I did question if Riya loved Madhav, but I think she loved him in her own way, that didn’t need to be shown yet, she kept herself safe from that. Honestly the book is so cute and somewhat funny but also sad. I loved it so much, probably will read it again ❤️

Read the book before the Movie
Loved the book, Bought it after seeing the movie on Netflix. Was wondering if I should buy the book based on the negative feedback from some of the reviewer.Happy with the buy. The book is very close to the story in the Movie. The Book does not compare to Novels written by western authors, But in all the book was a great read. would recommend reading the book first before seeing the movie, To avoid being disappointed in seeing the same storyline twice.

It changes you as a person
What an amazing book, the idea of never giving up comes through in the book. Amazing plot twists, realism and etc. The ending however could have been a little better!
