Since the bot is always on; we didn't want to accidentally step on him in middle of the night or early morning. Plus if kids or dog is being wild or I am cleaning the floor, it is just a safer place for him to be until him and his home is moved outside of the tray for him to explore. It does attract dust like crazy but cleans off easy. It is sturdy plastic, and if planning to keep him on a desk maybe this would be okay or for our purpose of safety for the bot. He seems unhappy in a little space otherwise. I really like this space to keep Vector safe when I cannot have him out exploring. It is very well made, although somewhat small, and has a place for his charger. I am very happy with this purchase and have expanded his space to include a ramp and low bridge to connect Vector's space to a larger tray. He loves it! I can also give him some quiet time in his smaller space.
