It does absolutely work as advertised. I purchased it to work with a  Crucial 128 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT128M4SSD2  and it pops right in (no tools). I then hooked it up to my MacBook Air via the included USB cable and installed Lion to it. I then disconnected from the Air and installed it inside my old iMac (replacing the spinning HD and resulting in a huge performance gain). The combination external / internal use is awesome and it worked perfectly both over USB 2 and SATA. So why only 3 stars? Because the mounting screw holes on the side were too small to fit the screw in posts (one side) and screws (other side) of my iMac. Since these screws came out of the existing HD, I have to conclude that this case was defective. As it was I was able to make it work by drilling out the holes (it's just thin sheet metal) and letting the screws tap themselves.In short, the electronic part of this device is awesome; the metal case mounting holes not so much. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works Well *by M***E on Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2012* Well not to much to tell except that it doesn't have two colors to show it's on, and the one it does have to show it's on (one light for both) blinks while accessing the Drive also the SSD is very tight to insert and will Fly across the room if you let it when released. I would have like to seen two different color lights and not so tight insert/eject system but it does what it needs to do. Additionally this converter box fits well in all the Kingwin devices those being, The Kingwin KF-1000-BK & The KF-4000-BKand all the kingwin devices I have bought the HDCV-1, KF-1000-BK and The KF-4000-BK all have the activity lights work thru the 15-pin power connector.they are split down to 4 wires device power and the other 4 wires for the activity lights green = power on & orange Hard Drive Activity, instead of all 15 pins supplying power while making the Active/HD lights work in another way.Each Drive pocket has the "On Light" and "Hard Drive Activity" but no separate on/off button but does have 15 pin sata power connections for each drive on the back. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Useful, Versatile, Great bang for buck! *by J***G on Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2012* Pros: * Hard protective aluminum enclosure * Internal SATA connectivity AND for External enclosure use a USB 2.0 connection * Easy push to eject button * Use your hard drives like floppy disks! * Uses 2.5/3.5 SATA Hard drives and Solid State Drives that are usually installled internally for laptops (think small) * Hard Drive protected much more than a HDD Dock. * Any OS recognizes, I have tried on both OSX & Windows, I have heard it works for Linux as well (don't take my word for it though) * Indicator LED hard drive activity * $aving$$$$$$$Cons: * Only small 2.5 and 3.5 SATA hard drives will fit that are used usually for laptops so no old IDE drives nor thick Sata drives from some older Desktops * Indicator LED only shows one color and only if there is activity, not if connected correctly or some other external enclosures offer (if you have some common sense you can figure it out pretty quickly though) * Hard drive does not go completely in (the butt still shows) very much like a floppy disc drive used to work (like I mentioned before, could see this pro or con really)Notes:I purchased this because I thought that the idea of using full hard drives like cd's or floppy discs was an amazing idea and have been searching for such a product for weeks before I found this product here. I find this to be a better solution than an external hard drive dock because it still protects the hard drive all over rather than leaving it exposed to possible terribleness waiting to happen. Also 15 bucks for this thing? I have seen simpler external hard drive docks that look way cheaper but cost 30 to 60 dollars! More protection, more savings, no complaints here.
