I have bought a large number of beginner art books and this is actually a nice one to add to the list of my favorites. It gives detail and advice,practice ideas and samples to reference too. As with most beginner art books it goes through the materials and different kinds of marks you can make to produce the image you are looking to get on paper. Its practical advice I would definitely take and even though I have dabbled off and on long enough to know all these tips I was still able to pick up fresh ones that stuck in my head.One thing I did like about this book it has a small section on drawing styles. I have received a lot of books on this subject and only a few I can think of over 20 years bothered to talk about these different styles. It displayed them again in a easy way to reference too.I recommend it for the beginner and intermediate artists.

I'm finding this is book very good for helping me to learn to sketch and draw properly. I think it's very well written, thorough and seemingly quite comprehensive, easy to follow, down to earth and practical. I find some how to do it art books are not so good - they can be a bit condescending to the reader - this one uses easy to follow explanations and the explanatory drawings in it are similarly well designed, clear and very helpful. I am particularly enjoying the spiral binding on this edition, which is very good because the book lies quite flat on the table when I'm doing my drawing exercises from it, and I don't lose the place.

As an artist "wannabe," this book is the most complete how-to-draw book that I have seen. It begins with the usual topic of materials and supplies, then progresses steadily to cover every topic that I would think is covered in extensive art classes for beginners. Two things that stand out in Nice's book: 1) in a concise style, she gives reasons to support her suggestions, helping readers to remember a process or material; 2) the examples are plentiful, detailed, and, what I find refreshing, include several "what's wrong" sketches--typical mistakes--why they're wrong and how to fix them. The wire binding lays pages flat for easy viewing.

Even though I wouldn't rate myself as a beginner, I picked up several useful pointers. I originally bought his book for my grandson but after glancing through it, I "borrowed" it back for a more thorough read. Well worth the time and money!

Get This Book! If you are a beginner to drawing this is the book for you! This is a bound book no a soft cover which is great, it is a real book. It is broken down into areas you need to learn with lots of detailed pen drawings to go along with the info. I have ordered just about every book that is listed on Amazon related to beginning drawing and I have been very disappointed with a couple d the books. One was skimpy and did not do any step-by-step, just expected you to figure it out by looking at the finished product. How is a beginner supposed to do that? He this book and you will not be disappointed.

Claudia Nice is one of my very favorite artists. I have all of her books and find all of them very informative and easy to follow. She has a great variety of drawings and paintings and I love to follow her painting ideas.

I guess I'm not too bright! Thought I was buying a "real book" not just a digital image. I was intending to give it to my granddaughter who is interested in learning to draw. It gets one star because I have absolutely zero use for it and there is no way that I can see a way to return an "unreal" thing!

Claudia is not only a very gifted artist but an excillent teacher as well. I use her books when I teach adult continuing education classes in Basic Drawing and Water color techniques. My students often purchase copies of Claudia's books once they see and try her techniques.

Brilliant service. Arrived before expected date. Item as described. Claudia Nice writes exceptional aperture books. She explains everything in such minute detail and makes learning the techniques fun. I have a really good collection of her books now.

I just purchased this book. As far as ascetics go, I prefer a real book to a down-loaded copy. This book is coil bound and lays nice and flat so I can draw right beside it without pages flipping etc.I have just completed the first exercise the author suggests and was quite pleased to get what she was talking about -- drawing what is actually there as opposed to drawing from a preconceived idea.I have browsed through the book and am looking forward to some of the other exercises she suggests. If you are a beginner such as I, and want to draw better, I think you will get a great deal from this book.

C'est parfait : il a beaucoup d'enseignements tout à fait utiles pour déssiner soit des animaux, soit des humains, soit quelque chose d'autre. La reliure du livre est aussi facile de feuilleter.Le seul problème fut le retard de l'arrivée de l'achat , mais néamoins ce que m'interessait le plus c'était d'avoir le livre!
