Can these chips be re-used on a second or third batch after boiling?

I'm not boiling mine. I'm letting distilled alcohol (diluted to 110 proof) steep for a few months with a small pile of these chips in the bottom of the gallon jar. I have reused the chips once I poured off the finished product, and I am on my 3rd reuse now. So far so good! And for the record, the amount of chips I used for one batch wasn't even a tenth of the overall product shipped to me. I'll have oak chips for years to come!

The chips I received are much lighter than the picture. Is the picture accurate?

Mine came lighter also . Wonder if we order it Xtra dark to get it where we want it to be?

When is the best time to add these chips? During fermentation or aging?

I use mine during fermentation. Same as when you buy the expensive wine expert kits that come with the oak chips they tell you to add during fermentation. However you can also use during aging just don't add to much or it taste like your eating the tree! Warning never reuse or continue using them past the fermentation or it will ruin the taste once it has been fermented, I will try using my next batch on the aging process so I will know how to answer this question next time!
