The Berenstain Bears and the Week at Grandma's

Again, the Berenstain Bears prove useful! My wife and I were going on a quick weekend getaway and wanted to give our daughter a glimpse of spending a weekend with grandparents. We decided to start reading her this book and it seems to have calmed her nerves. Great story and illustrations as always!

I chose this book for my in-laws to give to my son for his sixth birthday. They asked me to pick out a book I thought he would like. He and his little brother have always enjoyed the Berenstain Bears, so I thought this one was appropriate. The story tells about Mama and Papa going on a second honeymoon and leaving the cubs with Grandma and Grandpa. My boys and I have seen the television episode based on this book many times, so I was excited to read the book to them. However, we were all a little disappointed that the story paled in comparison. On tv, a good portion of the story revolves around Mama and Papa going back to where they spent their honeymoon only to realize that the place (and they, themselves) have changed quite a bit. Their visit to Grizzly Mountain Lodge is only seen in the book as "thoughts" by the grandparents and cubs about what Mama and Papa are doing. It's a good book, and I would recommend it to those who love the Berenstain Bears. However, neither my boys nor I liked it as much as the tv episode or even as much as a lot of the other BB books.

I really liked how this showed the anxiety that can come with a new experience, even something as fun as staying a week with the grandparents! I bought this book to help prepare my daughter for her first week away (hopefully this summer!) It is great because it opens the dialogue and shows her that being nervous is normal and everything will be fine.

Not only did my own children enjoy this author, my grand children do as well. These are entertaining and so cute.

I love the go-F-yourself smirk and glint in Papa's eye when he gets to tell the cubs they aren't coming on his and Mama's second honeymoon. It's the closest we ever get to seeing him and mama really portray the "good enough parenting" ethos. Like, it's okay to be excited to get away from your kids. No one expects the bear family to want to spend time together 24/7. I also love sister proving to us once again that she is the master of shade: "you must be so old you know EVERYTHING". She learned that from one of her parents, and it's definitely not Papa.A solid read.

Questa collezione di libri è davvero molto carina, e piace moltissimo alle mie figlie, abbiamo collezionato cinque o sei libretti diversi ormai. Racconti educativi e divertenti, lunghezza ideale per un racconto prima della nanna, e l’immancabile pagina di sticker è un bonus gradito dai piccoli. Chiaramente sono inglese, non so esiste una versione tradotta.

Not much to write here ! Great story, and the book was in fantastic condition. Still reading it to this very day.

I bought this along with a few other similar books to give to my mother in law from her future grandbaby, which I'm currently pregnant with. She loved it, and can add this book to the special collection at her house.

Great story. Blending the past and the present. My grandkids really enjoyed it.
