Great for Beginners!
Overall, I thought this was a great read. The layout of the book could have been better for me; it is structured like chapter book but I like reading my informational books with headings when topics arise and separating the text to show different context. It also uses the word “joining” which is just fine but in other textbooks they use the words transference and countertransference which can make things a little confusing. I’m new to the therapy field so maybe I misunderstood. But overall, great information!

Great book worth reading
This book opened up a new vista in my thinking about psychology that I haven't been exposed to elsewhere by systematically exploring and explaining the concept that simple behaviors may be the result of more complex factors. As a result of reading this book, behaviors or circumstances that used to appear mysterious or simply odd have become much more comprehensible conferring a greater level of competency to my interactions. I value the insight this book has given me and recommend it highly.

Materials vs. Supplier
I love this book! It is a great reference. The content in the book has nothing to do with the supplier, but I was happy to have it arrive a little earlier than originally announced. Especially, because I need it for my class. Thank you for not trying to rip me off with the price, too. THAT's always a bonus.

Finally, a focused academic systems theory overview text for family therapy survey courses!
While a plethora of well-written family systems therapy publications exists, finding an engaging text that explicates essential family therapy concepts in less than 150 pages is no easy feat. Dr. Smith-Acuna has done a fabulous job of presenting an overview of the essential modern and postmodern family therapy concepts in a coherent and cohesive fashion.Keep writing Dr. Smith-Acuna!Kim McBride, LMFT Associate Faculty Antioch University SeattleSchool of Applied Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy

Excellent text
I practice as a family therapist and teach classes in family counseling. This is THE text I require for the class. This is an excellent introduction to the varieties of systems theory and is very well done for its breadth. And, if you've never read a thing about systems theory, you should and you should begin with this book.

Well written and easy to read
Well written and easy to read. Not very dense which is both good and bad. Not a book to give you a lot of ideas on how to improve systems or tools for how to work within complex systems, but it gave a good overview and a broader perspective. Good introduction to systemic practices. Worth the money.
