How thick is the rope?

I bought the 100’, it is 5/8”, with same size rope grab.

Will this assist with me climbing my steep roof, or is this just to stop a fall?

This will help you go up and down your steep roof, i used mine for my 12/14 pitch roof when i redid the shingles, it was a lifesaver for me due to im not hip on hieghts, it made me alot more comfortable and safe. The part that connects you to your harness is easy to use as you move up and down the safety rope.

W/1 end to my roof anchor and the other to my body harness, if I do not need all 25', where does the slack rope go - presuming I want a taut amount?

Okay so I know this sounds stupid but in truth the slack rope goes under your feet, in order to trip you. I keep my rope tight at all times, that being said it requires constant adjustment. Yes it sounds like a pain , but you certainly do not want to be hanging on the end of that rope over the edge of your gutters.
