Raymond Weil, located in the heart of Geneva, Switzerland, is one of the last independent Swiss luxury watch companies. Even more uniquely, the company has remained a family business and is currently managed by Raymond Weil's son-in-law Olivier Bernheim, and his sons, Elie and Pierre Bernheim.Raymond Weil opened his watch-making business in 1976 during a very difficult period for mechanical watches. At the time, quartz watches were swiftly replacing their predecessors as a more affordable and equally accurate alternative. However, due to his 26 years of experience in the industry, Raymond Weil's design concepts, impeccable, mechanical movements, and commitment to entirely Swiss-made products earned him a clientele that continued to expand over the past 37 years.Despite the company's current popularity, these high standards have not relaxed, and each Raymond Weil watch passes 350 different checks before being put on the market. Raymond Weil's in-depth knowledge of horology has earned him several prestigious recognitions, including being named President of the Watch Manufacturer's Union of Geneva, Vice President of the Watch Industry's Training Center in Lausanne, member of the Watchmakers' Federation, and President of the Exhibitors' Committee of the World Watch-making and Jewelry Exhibition at Basel. The company's signature motto--"Independence is a state of mind"--is a reminder of its desire to conceive timepieces that are different, elegant and modern, while at the same time displaying all the rigor of watchmaking excellence. Rose gold plating adds an elegant touch to the 41.5mm case, hands, and idexes. This watch has a silver chronograph dial with a Swiss automatic movement.

Beware
Initially loved this watch, it appeals to the aesthetic senses and served its function well. However I started running into problems about two months in when it stopped ticking while still on my wrist, suggesting that the self winding movement was going through some problems. However this eventually went away and I thought it some sort of clockwork hiccup. About 4 days before the return deadline it completely stopped functioning; no amount of winding, or moral encouragements could get it to tick again. I didn't spend close to a grand for a lackadaisical watch, although I suppose that could add some character. Whether this is Amazon's handling/QA fault or Raymond Weil's is the question. Either way, my refund was not processed because while I dropped it off at UPS 2 days prior to the cut off, it didn't arrive until a couple of days later so buyers beware.

Nice looks, but...
It is a nice looking watch alright, if you like gold tone dress watches with silver tone dial, and I wear it occasionally. The size is just right, not tiny, but far from ostentatious. But the quality does seem somewhat suspect. After only a few months, some cogs are skipped when winding manually, not a good sign even for this lower end brand. Other than that it still works fine though, and I have it on a winder, so we'll see.
