Five star for recipes 3 star for print
Could not give less than 5 stars as I have all her other books and her recipes always come out. Not every recipe has a photo but most due; when baking something like cakes her all want to have a visual of how the finished dish should look. Mostly I want the publishers to know that the ingredient print is impossible to read: it is in chart form (as all her books are) but it is Mauve print on a pink background in tiny font size. You could have used a black color with larger font size. To make these recipes I will need a magnifying glass or have to write it ingredients out.I have been experimenting and found I can change the font /page size enough to read the charts, but it would be a whole lot easier if they were ore in line with the rest of the fonts to begin with.

It is like having a master baking right along-side you
First of all, I am a seasoned amateur baker, not a professional pastry chef.If I could bring more than 5 stars, I willAs soon as I received this book, I started to check out the recipes. They are just fantastc!!! I do love baking so I have quite a few baking books. This is one of the best: Rose Levy gives you all the directions step-by-step through the instructions for making wonderful cakes: from the ingredients in volume (cups, tsp,...) and weight (ounces and grams), which is very helpful for me. Includes author notes, special equipment you will need and some tips... and photographs of every finished cake (which, in certain way, helps me a lot!)This book contents soooo many recipes separated in different cathegory: Butter and oil cakes, Sponge cakes, cheesecakes, Weeding cakes...It also contains "the golden rules of cake baking". In it, the author gives advices on what type of flour, butter, chocolate use, how to fill a cake pan. There is also guidelines for storing cakes and frostings.... and much moreI'm so excited with this book but specially with the way the author explains every recipe (that I've already ordered "Rose's Christmas cookies" and "The pie and pastry bible")I've already prepared the Barcelona Brownie (it is my husband's favorite!), Lemon Poppy seed cake, White chocolate frosting, Banana cake, carrot cake, and some others... They all are Amazing!!!... I just followed the directions and everything came as beautiful as shown on the pictures on the book.If you are interested in learn new recipes, in get new ideas or just looking for a book to start baking, this is the one you have to order (now!)Totally recommended!!!!

Another home run for Ms. Levy Beranbaum - Gets your baking to the next level
I’m going to be straight-up with you: Baking is a precise art. It’s what separates home cooks from master pastry chefs. If you follow the instructions of this book… you will get on the playing field of a master pastry chef.Sure, the recipes are precise and exacting… however, that’s what baking is all about. This book will train you like Ms. Levy Beranbaum is right there next to you, guiding you through each step. Believe me, I’m not the best of cooks, but I certainly feel more comfortable about baking if someone is holding my hand as I go along. That’s how I felt with this book.The instructions are clear, and easy to understand. There are often notes with tips on how to make your creation a success. The photos are rich and luxurious, absolutely mouth watering really. I especially like that certain techniques are illustrated in a series of step-by-step photos.If you are ready to go “next level” on your baking, then this is the book for you. I wish you much success in your baking journey!!

Excellent recipes for exacting bakers
I love Rose Levy Berenbaum books because they are so precise--follow the directions, and you will end up with a wonderful dessert. This one is no exception, and the cakes I have made from it have been lovely and delicious. This is a cookbook for people who go the extra mile and follow directions precisely. It might be frustrating or seem fussy to people who want their recipes to be quick, though. The book gives directions using both volume and weight, but I recommend getting a scale and using weight measurements for baking. Highly recommended.

Not practical but a beautiful book ....
I don't like the format for the ingredients. It takes away from the beauty of the book to throw an excel type sheet in the middle of the page. The how-to pictures are very helpful. I'll put the book with my VERY LARGE library of cook books but I bet I'll never crack it open again.

Must buy
I didn't know anything about this author really and just bought the book based on a bit of information I had read online and the previous reviews on here. I can honestly say I love this book and it is one of the best purchases I have made. There is so much variety contained within and each cake I've tried has come out brilliantly. I would be lost without it now.To be honest though, these are not 5 minute recipes. They can be pretty heavy duty and to some that may be off putting. However, if you persevere, then the extra effort is definitely worth it. The author has a different way of mixing ingredients and after trying her method, I would not look back. The results are so much better. The only thing I would say is that you may have to adapt volumes/double up on the recipe etc, as the standard tin size used is a 9x2 which I for one, don't commonly have a need for. Also tube pans feature quite heavily, which again isn't something I typically bake in.This book is so comprehensive with very detailed commentary on ingredients, products and methods. I would recommend it to absolutely anyone who is a keen baker.

I had really high expectations for this book after reading so many rave reviews. I have done the lemon cake, and the mirror glaze chocolate ganache and they came out just perfect. I use the glaze in every single bday cake i make and cover it with toasted almonds and red fruits.

this book covers everything that one needs to know about baking cakes. It is a relevant to the enthusiastic amateur as to the professional. I have two other baking books by Levy Beranbaum, and each is indispensable to a baker. I would warmly recommend this as much as the others.
