Cuts fast
Perfect for a drill attachment. This auger cuts through a foot of ice in less than 5 seconds on my battery drill.

Most Economical Ice Auger that makes you fit in with veteran ice fisherman!
I am a relative newbie to ice fishing partially because I have been discouraged with an old, dulled out Strikemaster Mora for years. I have purchased and returned two different electric drills mistakenly thinking they had poor battery life as they only had enough power to drill 2 to 3 ice holes in 12 inch ice attached to my Mora. Save yourself unnecessary exertion and expense and begin with this Strikemaster Lazer. Like the reviews that drew me to this product, it cuts like butter, and a friend watching me use it for the first time said it looked like the auger was melting into the ice (albeit, he's the same one who saw me take 20 minutes to drill through 15" of ice with my old auger). This 7" Strikemaster Lazer attached to a Dewalt Brushless 20V Max with a Vendetta Precision Ice adapter, takes 20 to 30 seconds to cut through 15" of ice if you don't stop to remove the ice shavings (not recommended as it's easier to remove the ice before you break through to water). I easily cut 8 holes in 15 to 18" ice and I guess I could have cut MANY, MANY more holes before taxing the battery on my drill. When you try to be as economical as possible like me, you admittedly will struggle more before learning what works. Skip my struggles and buy this combination of Strikemaster Lazer, recommended electric drill, and adapter. Instead of the Clam conversion kit, I attached a frisbee as shown (and added two bolts for good measure for added diameter) to prevent the possibility of losing my auger should it detach from my drill when breaking through the ice. To avoid painfully cranking my wrists while drilling, simply rest the electric drill against your leg while drilling into the ice. Enjoy!

It's an excellent accessory to have
I used the electric drill conversion kit with this auger as a back up for my gas auger. It's an excellent accessory to have. Get a HIGH end drill, i tried a black and decker and porter cable and it just didn't work. I ended up putting the 18v Dewalt with an extended battery and it works perfectly! Now onto the auger review; I have used this as a hand auger, and I will say that 8 inches for a hand auger can become a little cumbersome after about 6inches of ice. We were cutting through 8-10 in most spots over the weekend and using it as a hand auger was an issue. But thats simply because you're cutting so much surface area compared to the smaller sizes. If you're going to use this strictly by hand, i would highly recommend the 6 inch auger which I also have. The 8 inch auger works well for me because we normally are targeting big walleye, pike, and even lake trout. The benefit to an 8inch hole is if you are running electronics such as a flasher or sonar. With the 8 inch hole you are less likely to have your transducer get in the way and it simply provides more room; especially beneficial for sight fishing in the shallows and so on.I highly recommend this auger due to its durability, light weight construction and razor sharp blades. That being said if YOU DO NOT already have a powerful drill, you may want to look into the strikemaster electra lazer. There is no point, in my opinion, to purchase a hand auger for 90 and then buy a drill for 200, when you can simply get the entire package for 350. That being said, with a dewalt 18v hammer drill, attached to this auger, the total weight is only 14lbs. Drastically less than any electric or gas auger on the market today.

Outstanding auger for price vs. performance!!! Best auger i've owned!
This auger has received some negative reviews. Let me address the issues that I read prior to purchasing this auger.1) Blade was Chinese made with inferior material.: The blades installed on my auger were Swedish made. I couldn't be happier with their performance cutting through the ice with little pressure.2) Blade bogs down in last inch of ice.: This due to the ice being a different consistency. Ice is softer near the warmer water. With aggressive cutting blades and too much pressure ALL blades can bind. However, the fix is easy. Ease up on the down pressure and let the blades do all the work. Not an issue.3) Poor quality of workmanship.: Not sure where this complaint comes from. Possibly someone who is not familiar with hand augers. In my humble opinion this auger is near perfect. The handle could be a tad longer (6") for the thicker ice.Since receiving my auger I have punched at least 80 holes with no dulling. In fact the blades will still cleanly slice a piece of paper. Typical ice thickness I fish is 15-22". Best part... last time out on the ice I was setting up at the same time as a couple nearby with a gas powered auger. In the time it took them to start up and drill their first hole I had drilled three. By the time they were done drilling 4 holes my son and I were already in the water with three lines ready for a bite! Best auger I've owned.

Works great!
The price is very reasonable for the product. Have drilled about 40 holes with it so far and still cuts like it has never been used. I would recommend this auger to anyone that was wanting to get on the ice.

Great ice auger!
I currently also own a large power auger and a mora auger however I was looking for something different. The power auger is large and heavy and I try to not bring it out unless the ice is very thick. The mora auger takes a lot of pressure to drill through. After reading many reviews I decided to upgrade from the mora to the laser and very glad I did! This auger cuts through the ice with no pressure at all and is very easy to carry out onto the ice. Can’t go wrong with this auger!
