Tricky but worth it
This is my second attempt at trying a moon cup. I would say, please stick with it. With all the scary stuff around tampons, I've been wanting to get something safer. I would say to get used to it, don't start trying att he start of your period while the flow is light. Get practicing when you have a heavier flow.

Absolute game-changer
This is the first and only menstrual cup I've tried, so bear in mind that I have no idea how this compares to other brands. That said, I've found that this works really well for my particular body. (For reference, I have the smaller size. I've never given birth, and I'm on the pill so my periods aren't super heavy.) I was a little worried about some of the negative reviews, but I figured if it didn't work out I'd return it and spring for a Diva Cup or one of the other pricier options. So far, I haven't felt compelled to.The instructions it comes with are clear but brief. (The booklet has a lot of pages, but only the first few are in English.) I'd suggest looking online for a more thorough step-by-step--the instructions are pretty much the same for all the different brands of cups.I ordered mine in the solid purple color, and it's a darker purple in real life than what's shown in the picture. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning.Because I'm on the pill, I can predict pretty accurately when my period will start, so I put the Athena Cup in for the first time the night before I expected to start bleeding. (I did research beforehand, and it's totally safe to have it in when you're not on your period.) That way, I didn't have to deal with a bloody mess the first time I put it in (and it WILL take many tries and a bit of experimentation before you get it in there successfully). There was definitely a bit of a learning curve at first, especially with removal, but I was able to figure it out after a few tries and then it was no big deal. It just takes practice and some getting used to. Again, definitely set aside at least 15-20 minutes the first time you try to put it in. As some other reviewers have suggested, it's also a good idea to use a back-up liner at first. Once I figured it out, though, I had zero leaks. I can also hardly feel it at all once it's in (it's definitely less noticeable than a tampon), which is great.I was initially concerned about the reviews saying that the Athena Cup is flimsy and doesn't open up all the way once it's in there. I will say that when I put mine in I don't really feel the "pop" that you're allegedly supposed to feel when it opens up. However, I've found that it DOES open as long as I insert it at the correct angle, and I've learned to recognize what it feels like when it's fully open. (Your experience may vary depending on your own personal anatomy, of course, but it worked for me personally.) Again, I haven't had any issues with leaking thus far, so I assume it's working the way it's supposed to.Overall, I'm really happy with this product, and will definitely keep using it in place of pads or tampons in the future. I should also add that menstrual cups are NOT for everyone--they do feel pretty weird at first, you have to get pretty up close and personal with your insides, and they're definitely harder to use than pads or tampons. I wouldn't blame someone for not liking these just in terms of the concept. But as someone who is completely on board with the idea of menstrual cups, this one is great.

First ever cup I tried - wish I had bought one sooner!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY ATHENA CUP!!!I bought size 1 , I've never given birth and have been told I am 'small internally' by a couple of nurses whilst having smear tests done, so thought that would be the best size to opt for.NEVER have I found my period so comfortable and easy to deal with!! I've had almost 30 years of uncomfortable, leaky and drying tampons, sweaty and bulky pads, OTT expense, ruined underwear, ruined bed-sheets, and anything involving water (swimming, relaxing in a lovely hot bath,) being a complete 'no-no' for almost one week of each month. even normal showering was troublesome for me at times. What a joy and relief finding this menstrual cup has been! It has completely changed the way I view 'period time' because I know that it will now be comfortable, un-hassled, inexpensive (actually, no extra costs at all), and easy to live with. Now I admit, the first couple of times I inserted and removed the cup I thought it wasn't going to be for me. However after a quick YouTube search for some extra hints and tips about different ways of folding, some easy removal advice and cutting some of the removal tip off the bottom to stop it rubbing, I am completely sold!! I LOVE IT!!!!Once you have the insertion and removal techniques down, it is the most comfortable and hassle free way I have found to deal with menstruation.I would suggest still wearing some kind of pad or panty-liner whilst getting used to using your cup and knowing how to check it is correctly inserted, just to be on the safe side. I did this and found I needn't have bothered. It's so easy if you follow the instructions and don't get all weird about being very intimate with your own anatomy!!I've used it for two periods now and I know I'll never go back to anything else.Easy to store, carry, clean (I use warm water and some very gentle, feminine hygiene soap), and change ( I find I only need to empty 3 times a day, first thing in the morning, mid afternoon and bedtime. Even on my heaviest days, which I would say are reasonably heavy considering the sizes of, and how many tampons and pads I would need each month. A big change from needing to be sure anywhere I went had easy access to a bathroom every couple of hours if I wanted to be completely sure of avoiding any leaks.Thank-you Athena Cup for making period time so easy!! I wish I had taken the plunge and bought one of you sooner!!

Comoda
