Muddy, well made, not transparent, medium gain
The pedal works fine and, if you have bright, scooped pickups/amp, it could be what you're looking for to get a thicker tone. Unfortunately, for me, I couldn't get a useable tone for my single coil neck for alt/indie rock. It was too muddy at all settings. This is not a transparent pedal (try the Pure Sky for that - really good pedal!). I've been through many pedals, mainly over £150 overdrives. I just thought I'd give this a shot as the Pure Sky was so good as a transparent boost/mild overdrive. The Highwayman pedal does not work for me, but perhaps if your needs/tastes are different, it could be just what you're looking for. There are some demos online, so have a listen and make an informed choice.

A useful compressor for the price
Unfortunately this particular one failed and I had to return it. However, while it was working it was reasonably good for the price. Certainly having only two controls makes it easy to use and less to think about.
