Strangeling: The Art of Jasmine Becket-Griffith

When I ordered this book I actually wanted it as a kind of reference to her coloring book, but this book is a work of art, I love it. I know that her pictures/paintings are in this book, but this'd book is so surreal, as you look at each page you are transported to another world. The pages at glossy and thick. The cover is beautiful and the pages when closed (I don't know if this is the right word) is embossed with gold. I was looking through it and my mother said , "thats a beautiful book", and I had looked at it, oh I don't know, at least 20 times. My mother agreed that it was beautiful but a little risque, she will be 80 next month.Now my paternal grandmother wound have loved it, she was very artistic(ie ..painted naked lady's and men on whisky bottles, made curio shelves with shoeboxes, used wooden kitchen matches, sanding paper, varnish and lacquer, and glue, she was a women born before her time). This book has been good in quite a few ways, when I am coloring in her coloring book and I'm stuck on a spot where I can't figure out what she's leaning on I see what the picture looks like, but don't count on that peek because many of the coloring pages aren't in the book. This book sits on my end table beautifully displayed so other people can enjoy its beauty also. Now I bought her the Portfolio 1-3, They are also beautiful but are printed on slightly thicker paper then create space, with very good colors forthe pictures with a matte finish they are also a paperback, but there really isn't anything spectacular about them and they stay in my plastic crate for when I need a reference. If I were you I'd stick with this book which is spectacular.

I just received this beautiful art book in the mail. The impact of the vivid detail and beauty certainly was made to enjoy always. I love the way it looks per the cover too. Somehow it reminds me of books made when I was in grammar school---Those chubby fiction works that were favorites. That creamy border around the edge makes it feel like that to me. I just love it. There has been so much thought going into this gorgeous book, it would be impossible to describe concisely. Even more, I love that it has her painting Magdalene in there. I am particularly interested in her religious works and so delighted to find some therein. Also, I completely appreciate the various ultra large pictures that also span over two pages. I know some might not like that because some of the picture disappears into the gutter, but I do believe there was great purpose doing that to the ones where it was done. It was so we could see the detail. Her works are very detailed, and I am one who wants to admire it up close. Most pictures are one page, I believe. This does not disappoint. I love looking at those big eyes...so surreal but so real looking too because of the amazing reflective detail! Looking at this work, I felt something so deep, so personal to me. Hard to express. But it touches me so much. If you are a fan of hers, I highly recommend this one. It has so many of her paintings...it is quite the collection. God bless you all.

The hardcover edition that I purchased has an eye-catching cover and gold edged pages. The book is so beautiful that you must wash your hands before picking it up. Inside is an enjoyable collection of well-painted art work. Becket-Griffith has a theme of big eyed young woman, and she sticks with this idea through a collection of imaginative images. I liked her big-eyed version of some of the classic paintings - such as the Mona Lisa or Van Eyck portrait.It clear that the artist is talented painter and devotes a lot of attention to the detailed and colorful paintings. The book encourages you to linger on each page to admire the art, rather a hastily flipping through the end. Once you have looked at each image, you will probably pick the book back up and go through it again.I see that the artist has a few other portfolio books - I wonder how overlap there is between those books and this one - I am tempted to purchase those books too.

I am super pleased with this purchase as it Has so many funner pieces of art to look thru in such a well made hardcover book. The condition of the book is excellent and it definitely makes a wonderful addition to my new collection of these books from this amazing artist/author.

Amazing book! I'm a huge fan of Jasmine Becket-Griffith. I couldn't be more excited to get this book. I'm completely redecorating my condo to reflect my quirky and colorful personality, and I wanted this book on my coffee table. It's perfect. I love the art and the stories. If I can find more hardback art books by her or that pair well with this book I won't hesitate to buy them.

I love the book. It has some beautiful artwork in it. But I do have to agree with a prior review I read. It's rather disconcerting to be looking through all the beautiful pictures and then come across a two page spread where it's split right in the middle of the picture. In the middle of their face, etc. I'd rather they had made it smaller and spun it sideways than put that gigantic crack down the middle. It takes away from the beauty of the art. And I found it rather offputting.

This is the most beautiful book I've ever owned! Quality hard cover with gold building on the sides of all pages. The art work is amazing. It sucks a couple were split in two between pages but that's the only thing that's not totally awesome about this book! I wish I could afford all of these. Jasmine Becket-Griffiths is my top artist now.

I love her art. While she does a bunch of Disney inspired art as well, which I do own, and how I first came across the artist, I have to say I love the strangeling collection just as much if not more- there's something haunting about the huge eyes that seem to be the connecting aspect with Jasmine's work. Would highly recommend. I also bought the coloring book that goes along with this book.
