Works with the Microsoft Easy Transfer Program
This did the job of transferring Windows settings, documents and other items from the old computer to the new computer (XP to Windows 7). BUT it will NOT transfer programs. You will get a report afterwards and then you get to install all your programs on the new computer. AND if they are locked because you already used the registration code, then you can try to call the program manufacturer to see if it can be released OR buy the program again.MS wonders why people wont upgrade, it's because I have to buy half the programs over again and reinstall everything for a day or so before everything works. This cable was as fast as network, IMO. I will keep it. It took about 3-4 hours to copy about 100-130 GB of documents and settings and other stuff. It did work for my windows XP to Windows 7 transfer.

The Help Desk is Really A Sales Desk
Ultimately the transfer works but a call to their help desk was an issue. I could not figure out how to get the transfer to go to my C drive instead of my D drive on the new computer. I called help desk and they down loaded software to enable them to run both computers remotely. Then they downloaded security software, ran a scan and told me that I had 66 registry errors. However, for a mere $169, I could get the security software and help desk assistance for a year - what a deal. I told the man from Mumbai that was ridiculous price for security software, that the best of breed was on $49 plus tax. He then proceeded to transfer the data and told me that their would be a slight charge for his service - that's when I hung up as its clearly marked on the software box that help desk is free. I observed what he did to fix my problem which took about 10 seconds. In conclusion, the Help desk's primary mission is to sell you over priced security software - having either succeeded or failed in their sales effort, then they fix the problem. It took over an hour for help desk to fix the issue because the downloads were on both computers, the problem could have been solved quickly. Ultimately, the transfer software works fairly well, not all on the old computer was transferred. If you want to waste a lot of time, this is the software for you.

Moved over 46 GB's of files from my old XP to Windows 8 in less than two hours!!!
This little cable costing me only $7.49 saved me days and days of time consuming frustration! I am a novice not a savy pc tech...just a simple 58 year old wife and Mom.The only glitch I ran across is the download disk could not be installed on my old pc the first time due to missing cryptographic settings. Now, I didn't know what that meant but I simply googled it and Windows had the fix for those missing cryptographic settings... what ever they are. After I got the settings fix and finally got my old xp to wake up and read the disk again all went like water flowing down hill. I simply walked away from my two lap tops. Less than two hours later over 46 GB's of precious pictures, embroidery files, music, Adobe and Word files, etc. were magically moved onto my new super fast but a little bit frustrating Windows 8!!!The cable and included cd disk is so simple to use that I only wish I had more I could write! :) I was so excited I almost heard angels singing when the Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows 8 /Windows 7/XP/Vista (F4U060) was finished! There is info on the package that I found to be helpful to know before you buy. The cable will only work on pc's with 32 bit moving to another 32 bit or 64 bit. It won't work with 64 bit to 64 bit, or 64 bit back to 32 bit for some reason. Also, it only works with Pentium-based processor type of pc's. All of this is probably the reason it hasn't worked for some and was given bad reviews...But as for me, it has been the best time saver I have ever purchased and I can't say enough good things! I have had my new pc for almost a year and off and on struggled trying to get all those files moved over. Whew, now I can get back to quilting, what I really want to spend my time doing!!!

Investigate thoroughly before buying
This device, like most things Microsoft is irritating, does not do what most of you probably want it for but does cause lots of problems if it actually does work, which, thankfully, it will not for most of you.The issue. Most of you do not want to upgrade your computer this year because there is no software nor hardware worth it. For most of you that means games. There are no new PC games worth it. Likely that will change next year making about a year from now the time to upgrade but not now.A full third of you still use Windows XP because Vista, RL, 7, 8 and 8.1 are so very bad. 8.1 is a bad attempt to salvage 8 which is a horrible attempt to make all computers like an Xbox. Not only is this juvenile but the operating system is literally disobedient and wastes lots of time trying to force it to what it is supposed to do instead of what they want you to do. I have work to do now. Shop on Ebay when I want, not when you want....&^%#^. But hey, at least its stable....which is not true of vista, RL and 7. Hilariously, Xbox LOST the console wars to PS4. So now everyone plays PS4 and Xbox one will be like a $100 6 months from now.Rather than make a good replacement for XP, microsquish is forcing people to upgrade basically by sabotaging its own operating system. OK....I give. Here's $100, and my shiny new install for 8.1 Pro. I'm sure I will have lots of fun making the stupid thing to do work instead of trying to play Oishi High School Battle on Youtube. The problem.....gigs and gigs of old photos, movies, and various documents I want to shove onto my laptop before I format my hard drive and regen my whole system. Then shove back onto my old computer with the new operating system. Millions of you have the same problem. Yeah...I could (and sadly WILL) do it over my network. That is slow. Nowhere near what a direct connect cable would be.What I want. Just open a damn temporary connection from computer to computer as if it was a remote drive. Simple. Simplist thing in the world. What it does. Attempts to "sync" two computers. Two computers that are nothing alike, with completely different goals, different programs.......yikes. And why? Because what I want is the simplest thing in the world and what all of you want to do. Can't have that. The really bad part. XP and 7 are compatible. 7 and 8 are compatible. 8.1 is not compatible (wahhh?) XP and 8 are not compatible. You know what----->trashcan.I know my home network is slow but I can sleep while it does its job this one time. Now, Windows is actively wasting my time and so is Belkin.
