Q: What is the btu rating of the unit, how do you keep the tubes from freezing in the winter?

It is officially rated to provide up to 45,000 BTUs per day, but that was based on a government test done in Florida in September. In reality, it will fluctuate month to month and your location matters - if you would like to private message us your address and elevation we can provide more detailed numbers. Our pool collectors (unlike our domestic hot water systems) do not offer freeze protection. They are meant to be taken down during winter.

Q: What are the external dimensions of the panel?

Installed on the 45° Frame it is 91" wide, 53.3" deep and 60" tall.

Q: Would it be possible to winterize the system by vacuuming the water out of the system? Or possibly fill the tubes with a glycol fluid for the winter?

Easiest is to just take the tubes out and pour the liquid out for winter. Glycol would work, but you would need to remove the glycol before reconnecting it to your pool pump, so just letting it sit dry works better.

The installation instructions can be found on Duda Diesel. Search for the Solar 30 Tube Water Heater. This is essentially a passive solar system and really cannot exceed 10 PSI of water pressure from your pool pump. We've added it to the low pressure side of our pump and manage through valves to control the pressure. Too much pressure, and water will shoot out of the top of the tubes going into the manifold.
