Versatile and effective
This is the exact same sleep system issued to Soldiers in the US Army, minus the self-inflating sleeping pad that Soldiers are issued. This sleep system has been tried and tested and works great.I was struggling to find a single answer for a sleeping bag that can work year round. Most sleeping bags are either designed for warmer weather OR designed for colder weather. This modular sleep system allows for versatility for both warmer weather AND frigid cold weather. The product came unopened and wrapped in plastic. Included is the warm weather bag, cold weather bag, bivvy, and two stuff sacks. This sleep system is modular, so you can use just the warm weather bag, just the cold weather bag, or both together. Using the bivvy can also add another layer of insulation aside from protecting you from the elements if that's all you're using for shelter. Of course, you'll want to use a sleeping pad with this. I use the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm Mattress Regular and it fits this sleep system perfectly. This system is best used with the sleeping pad inside the bivvy and sleeping bag(s) on top of the sleeping pad.I've used this sleep system a lot in the Army under a wide variety of conditions, so I knew from the beginning that it would work great. However, I've always struggled at using the bivvy under harsher conditions because there's nothing that keeps the bivvy suspended. So the bivvy inevitably ends up sagging down on my face and smothering me. I have yet to find a good solution for this problem. For normal camping, I use this in my Hennessy Hammock - Expedition Zip. This means I have an additional shelter so I don't need to completely zip myself in my bivvy. This sleep system is pricey, but it's very versatile and reliable. I've used it in conditions ranging from hot, humid summer to sub-zero winter mountains.

US Army Sleeping System
I am very happy with this purchase. The bag came undamaged. All zippers zipped, all snaps snapped, all velcro velcroed. The bag is awesome. It's the same kind that the US Army issued me when i was in. It will absolutely keep you warm in the coldest weather if you use it properly. The price was great. $155 for a $400 item. I would absolutely buy it again if I need another one. I highly recommend this product.

Great, Rugged Option for all Camping
I started winter camping in Northern Minnesota two years ago and my 30 degree goose down sleeping bag was not cutting it anymore, but I did not want to spend hundreds of dollars for a sub-zero goose down bag. I'm sure they're well worth it, but when I found this Modular Sleep System, I had to give it a try.First off, yes they are used. You can't just buy these brand new unless you're in the military. Secondly, though it's used, I don't think the one I received was used much. There was one stain, but I threw it in the wash and it came right out. I love the Gortex outer shell, which is waterproof and keeps the wind out. I've used this sleep system when it got down to 70F at night down to -10F, and if you set it up correctly, you'll sleep just fine. If I recall correctly, if all bags are put together, this is rated for -30F.***Reminder: Sleeping bag ratings are for the lowest survivability temperature. This doesn't not mean you're going to be sleeping like a baby in a temperature-controlled home in winter. If you don't wear layers, you'll probably be a bit cold if it gets below 0F. However, I also purchased a Polish Lavvu and a Pomoly wood stove. All together, they keep me plenty warm when it gets down to 0F.

Excellent, Quality Made Bag, Like New (but, not New)
Genuine military system with all the proper labels. Bag components are like new with no rips or tears. However, I only rated this 4 stars since I ordered and paid for a NEW system; I received a slightly used system. The bottom of the Intermediate Cold Bag was covered with woolen balls, i.e., someone slept inside this bag with wool socks and left bits of his socks stuck to the bottom and lower sides of the bag. Still, a great deal for the price.

Covers all scenarios/temperatures you are likely to encounter
Ideal for a multitude of scenarios. Appears to be unissued and all strap, zips and sleeping bag material in the one I received was clean and fully functioning. you will receive a patrol bag (dark green) this bag is the outer sleeping bag and the intermediate cold bag fits inside. Both bags can be used on their own, in combination and can be enclosed in the waterproof outer cover (see photo). The sleeping bags can easily accommodate a 5ft10" male but the spare space reduces/is limited in the intermediate bag (preserves heat). I have used mine in an overnight fishing trip when the temperature dropped to 6C (slept in underwear and shirt and jumper. Wake to find a mist/damp fog had arrived at 4.00am and stayed for several hours. Sleeping bags were dry and I was comfortable (both bags used). As I was a UK customer I was 'hit' unfortunately for an additional £80.00(approx. $100.00) import Tax etc. Comes supplied with two stuff sacks and both sleeping bags fit easily in the small one, which provides protection from the outer waterproof covering when placed in the larger bag (both stuff sacs are green in colour). A little on the heavy-side (all combined) so only really suitable for camping when you have a form of transport, unless you are super fit or a member of the armed services!
